meh.. if I compare, the movie was better. But if I take it alone, it was okay I guess, nothing really standing out except the Arthurian legend.
I felt that the central characters were too positive and good, they didn't seem to have many bad traits. My favourite character was Marco, even though it's unusual. He was the most engaging and interesting character in the whole book.
This was a cute read. Some problematic themes that come from the time it was written and some over done tropes that were very popular at the time but I super enjoyed it! I did expect to know more about it since I had seen the Disney Original Movie, I did not. It was totally different.
God, I totally forgot about Meg Cabot books. I remember having so much fun with this one... It was an assignment, actually- we brought our own books to class, and then exchanged it with our friends. It was actually so much fun: we just went around negotiating one book for another until we got what we wanted. I ended up with this one because it was so lengthy no one wanted it, and I had a reputation for being a nerd(I mean?). I myself brought The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (aka the most boring book in the history of time) and was glad to be rid of it- the girl who got it, not so much. Although, she did end up enjoying it; good for her reading Victor Hugo at ten.
Reading this was wholly nostalgic and I LOVED every second of it! [hence the reason I've chosen not to rate. I'm riding the nostalgic feels trip too hard lol]
I saw the Disney movie first—blasphemous, I know—and really fell in love with Ellie (or Allie, I guess I should say), and so from there, I binged a LOT of fanfiction, through which I discovered the truth about Ellie's role and bits of Will's backstory. And ever since, Avalon High has been on my radar to ACTUALLY read. So this was a ride. I'm so happy I got around to it, and while they probably don't have much literary value, you can bet your ass I'm absolutely going to read the Coronation manga series because I am NOT ready to let this world go.
If you have any middle grade readers that love myths and legends, retellings, and/or just fantasy in general, this is definitely as good as any!

Slightly too childish for me but still entertaining. I would say it's more for young teens than late teens.
This book is so amazing that the movie doesn't do it justice. I loved the characters and the fast moving plot.
