was nothing like the movie... i like the book better

Good book but movie is better

This is why I am fearful of going back and reading things I used to love as a child. This book uses easy tropes of blondes and brunettes. Of love at first sight. Nerds and popular kids. Of the protagonist being 'different' from everyone else by being a geek/interested in track. It was cringy reading this as an adult but I can definitely see what drew my adolescent personality to this book: reference to the legend of Camelot, romance and desiring a place of belonging (even through text).

Holy excalibur on a stick! I can't believe how good this book is. I started it last night and finished it tonight. O.O That's crazy!! Well maybe not considering it's only 200 pages on my Nook, but still! Even if you don't like Meg Cabot, and you like anything to do with the Arthurian Legend, you'll like this!

Meg Cabot is one of my favorite YA authors. I picked this book up years ago not knowing she wrote it. The book is seamless and prefect to get a younger generation interested into Camelot and King Arthur. This book has shaped my thinking and was a beginners tool to my introductory phase into King Arthur. This book is well recommended, it flows well and is a quick read.

I'd probably give this closer to a 3.5, but there were certainly elements I really liked about it that tipped it up. I also think that watching the Disney movie right after finishing it made me appreciate the book much more. Some of the plot points were fairly predictable, but I really loved the Arthurian legends woven in and I appreciated the main character being tall and rather geeky. A fun, light, but not too ephemeral read.

I'm a sucker for anything connected with Arthurian legend. And Meg Cabot is one of the few teen/chick lit writers I actually like. So the Arthurian legend geek and teen girl in me loved this book. I wouldn't try to pass it off as something fantastically written but I loved the story.

RE-READ: This was my favourite book when I was in high school and I spotted it and couldn’t resist rereading it. Although I can see that it is meant for a younger reader than I am now I have still loved reading it. I love how they link in the legend of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake. I would definitely recommend but probably it’s more for high school kids than 22 year olds...

Not quite as good as the movie's storyline, but Will is still a heartthrob. Will definitely read again.

Avalon High tells the story of a new girl, Ellie, and the friendships she makes in her new town. The first person she encounters is the handsome, yet unavailable A. Will Wagner. Captain of the football team and all around great guy. Then we have his not so nice girlfriend, Jennifer Gold, cheerleader extraordinary. Lance Reynolds, Will's BFF, is also in the story continuously. Marco, Will's stepbrother seems evil, and he just might live up to that expectation. This is an amazing book that shows compassion, betrayal, love, and humor, all on an easy to read teenage level.
