One of Koontz's best works in my opinion. He masterfully brings together characters from all walks of life as he also delves deeply into the metaphysics of magic and the bonds of love. His characters are as uplifting as they are examples what we all are: everyday people coping with a darkening world. At times, it held a bit of a religious overtone, but not necessarily a particular religion, just that someone out there is guiding the events of the world. It is easily overlooked when compared to the beauty of his characters. It's amazing how he can craft a jaded detective, a little blind boy and a violated young woman (among many others) all in the same pages and have them all fully-fleshed.

Pretty good Koontz book. I was hoping a couple other characters would have been developed a bit more. Ending is ok.

It has been awhile since I have enjoyed a book so much. I can't even read the bad reviews because I don't want anything to spoil this book for me. I was attached to all of the characters... even the bad one. My only complaint is that it isn't longer.

I guess I would give this a 1.5 if I could. It's readable but you kind of regret spending the time on this. Maybe if it was half the size it wouldn't have pissed me off - but 768 pages? And I felt like it was doing some preachy religious allegory crap at me. What the hell is your point with this book Dean Koontz?

I feel like there were huge holes in the plot on this one and it was just the weakest thing I had read by him. There really wasn't the pay off you want when you get to the end either. Argh. WTF DEAN KOONTZ?

I've read some Dean Koontz books that really standed up as great reads. What I usually love about Koontz books is the attachment I get with some characters of his novels and there is so many twist and turns making the book even more exciting. However this one didn't deliver that to me and maybe I had to big of expectations on it. It wasn't terrible but sisnt work with me. So 2.5 stars from me

I finished this really quickly mainly because I didn’t sleep after a night shift, but I found it was a nice easy read and a good story, one of my first Dean Koontz books and look forward to reading more

It started off very intriguingly. It then went down hill. I was really enjoying the story, when I didn't know what was going on, but as the answers were revealed, the story got less and less appealing. The names were terrible and the characters were one dimensional.

That being said, I really did like how easy it was to read this book. It was like turning on the tv and just letting my mind relax. The book has little substance, and few things I'll remember in years to come, but entertained me enough to fill my time with an enjoyable reading experience.
