Watched the show. Loved it. Watched it again. Got the book. Freaking loved it. I was surprised to see there were so many short stories! And they were all good and heartfelt, as I was going I wrote down my favourites until I realized the list got longer and longer! What a delightful read!
My favourite essays: Misery loves fried chicken too. So he looked like dad, it was just dinner right? During a night of casual sex, urgent messages go unanswered. The race grows sweeter near its final lap. When eve and eve bit the apple. You may want to marry my husband. DJ’s homeless mommy. Now I need a place to hide away. Just holding on through the curves. Take me as I am, whoever I am. Adolescence without a roadmap. My husband is now my wife. Something like motherhood. First I met my children, then my girlfriend. My first lesson in motherhood. Two decembers: loss and redemption.
Really hope they film a season 2 with all these amazing essays!!

A good book to read as a companion to another—I spent the last few weeks reading a handful of essays a night before bed. Overall enjoyable (although some of the essays themselves were cringe-worthy) & I recommend reading if you’ve watched the amazon show (and vice-versa!) Fair warning: the show certainly fluffs up the stories and provides more context for who the narrators are than these essays do.
some of these were abysmal, like so fucking bad. but some of them i really liked! nothing life changing but a quick, easy read and was truly touched by a couple of the stories.
These essays are stories of love in all forms- familial, romantic, you name it. I really enjoyed it and devoured the short personal stories insanely quickly. Ultimately, it is a really easy read, despite some of the heavier tales.

This is a charming fun read, perfect for Valentine's Day or just when you want to be cheered up. Some of my favorite stories include "Truly, Madly, Guiltily," "When Eve and Eve bit the Apple," and "Misery loves Fried Chicken, Too." The way the book is broken up by sections is really nice, its easy to pick the right story for the mood you're in. Even though I'm a fairly frequent reader of the Modern Love column in the New York Times, it was nice to revisit these stories. The one thing I would have liked was an update on some of the much older chapters. My book club is reading this in February and I can't wait to discuss it with them. *I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own*
There’s just something so beautiful about reading about other’s people memories or lives. I tried so hard not to read this book in one go, but the stories are just so simple and intriguing that I couldn’t stop reading.
I think what I loved most about this book was that it wasn’t just about romantic love, it talked about LOVE in all of it’s form, stories about forgiveness, redemption, understanding, love in it’s purest form I believe.
I tried to pick a favorite story, buy I just couldn’t do it. I promise this book is worth the read if you are genuinely interested in other people’s life and stories.
The tv show is great, it’s even one of my favorites and I can’t wait for the second season, but the book is definitely better, I felt it was more real since they don’t portray the stories the same way they did in the book.
