A mixed bag, as with a lot of anthology. Strong start, strong finish, can't remember the rest.

Anthologies are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get.
Similarly, Modern Love was a mixed bag of lovely chocolate truffles and nasty cherry-filled candies, with some stories indulgent and enjoyable and others had a strange or even unpleasant aftertaste. Jones made a big deal out of not only focusing on romantic love, but a majority of the stories still seemed to be focused on dating/marriage relationships. I would’ve like to have either a less misleading preface or a collection with more submissions focused on familial bonds and friendships. Still, this was one of my better non-fiction reading experiences (which I haven't had a lot of). As one would expect, the collection includes a variety of perspectives and lifestyles; some stories are thought-provoking, some are heart-warming, some are just plain weird. While the stories were interesting to read, a lot of them weren't particularly memorable.
Notable stories include:
My First Lesson in Motherhood
When the Doorman is Your Main Man
You May Want to Marry My Husband

Compulsively readable. No matter where you are in your life and in your "love life," somewhere between the covers of this book you will find a true story that you can relate to, aspire to, or empathize with. With dozens of personal essays plucked from 15 years of the popular NYT column, each by a different writer and each only about 6 pages long, I found myself "just one more" -ing my way through this kaleidoscopic array of love in so many phases and forms. A wholly satisfying, courageously written collection. ❤
