I fell in love with these characters from the AMC show. I still loved following their journey through the book. I think the AMC show made some really good decisions when it came to the story telling. It’s as if they cleaned up the book a bit. I still loved this book so much and have so much admiration for the Queen Anne Rice. I think I will read the next one! I want to see where Lestat goes. He is hands down one of my favorite characters ever. And so is Louis. I feel like Louis’s depiction of depression is just so spot on accurate.

It was an experience. And education of sorts.
Definitely a staple to read for anyone interested in the vampire genre or gothic genre… very enlightening as far as tropes from the genre are concerned and it’s interesting to see how this work contributed to the cultural lexicon
NOTE: Ann Rice has got some *issues*.
I seriously want to investigate more, do more research.
At times it feels like she’s writing about the stifling difficulties of being a woman, or of being queer (although I don’t believe that she was lgbtq?) but
It it’s also giving Mary Shelly and “Frankenstein” vibes
As if she’s writing about her relationship with her maker (her father or God)
It could be all of them. I’m not sure. Anyway possibly more research is needed.
Edit: I’ve honestly just remembered Anne Rice lost her daughter young so this is probably about about grief and living with death and the frozen specter of her daughter haunting her (Claudia) which makes me appreciate it a more.

This is a terrible review.

Mainly I just want to say: it’s worth the read, it’s thought provoking and enlightening but I can’t say i enjoyed it.

Also although there’s no sex whatsoever, and I pretty sure it’s not intentional (?) it teeters very UNCOMFORTABLY close to pedophilia so yeah I didn’t like that.
