adventurous dark emotional mysterious reflective

a brilliantly written novel tackling the philosophical questions of Vampirism: what does it mean to be immortal? is there a God? what about Satan? and what is the nature of eternal death?
all these issues and more Rice tackles in beautifully written prose; at times lyrical and lush and at others succinct and hard-hitting (just my kind of style!)
Rice has crafted a well-made, thrilling story with incredibly compelling characters, luscious settings and above all deep emotion.

Excellently written. Anne Rice writes in a way that paints a picture so beautifully without feeling like unnecessary over explaining. It took me a while to read but that is no fault of the book, rather timing. It’s no surprise that this book continues to be relevant and will still be relevant many years in the future. Really great read, and I highly recommend it!

I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't. I found it very boring and difficult to get through. I kept waiting for it to get better, it didn't.

Besides Stephen King, Anne Rice was one of the first horror writers I really got into about 10-15 years ago. I was obsessed with her vampire chronicles novels and the New Orleans old european style in which she enfolds the reader. Now, having reread Interview With The Vampire for the first time in a decade, I have noticed how much my reading taste has changed. Don't get me wrong, I love this book, and I still love Anne Rice. But it didnt captivate me like some books do, right from the beginning. It took a while for me to warm to the characters again, to drink up her descriptions and settings, to be pulled along the centuries with Louis, Lestat, Claudia, Armand. About half way through, the book became fascinating, and awoke in me my former vampire loving goth self, and I really devoured the rest. It's a great classic story and I mourned for Louis his loss of humanity and his vampire child. Really glad I reread it and wasn't deterred from the slowness of the beginning. Definitely rates 3.5 or 4 out of 5!
