A journalist stumbles upon an eerie interview and although skeptic of course about the man’s tale, he starts to realize that the story told may just be very real!
The man sitting across from him named Louis wasn’t always this sophisticated, this wise and certainly wasn’t always a vampire. Two hundred years ago he was just a young man trying to navigate his way through life. As a wealthy plantation owner he appeared to have it all, and cared for his family who loved him, but all that changed when his brother tragically passed away. Louis was suddenly a suspect in his death and as his life spirals, he welcomes the dark stranger who offers absolution.
Lestat transforms him into a Vampire and Louis soon finds that life isn’t always greener on the other side. As a Vampire he hoped he would be like Lestat who is heartless, passionate and brave, except Louis can’t quite seem to let go of his mortal self. Even when Lestat brings in a young girl to complete their little family, Louis still finds himself yearning for what can never be and will travel the world in search for the answers of what he truly is.

Of course I watched the movie before I even read this and loved it, not only just for the fact that Brad Pitt plays the role but also it was just so wonderfully creepy. The book thankfully contains that same aspect and although holds a few differences I still think both were very well done in their own way. One thing the book did better was definitely the ending, the ending wasn’t at all like the movie and left a mysterious almost cliffhanger for the reader to mull over. Highly recommended for any horror lovers out there or just anyone looking for more from the movie!

Of course I loved it! Gothic vampires being pale, moody, co-dependent, and toxic? Yes, please.

I first read this when I was way too young and didn't understand anything about the world. All I saw was: sexy vampires and can I be turned, pls?

Returning to it as an adult woman with children, who has actually lived a life, the reading is quite different. I appreciate the Gothic prose, the lush descriptions of New Orleans and Paris. The crime committed by turning Claudia, who was just a baby.

Yes, Louis is whiny but he's also still partly human. I like to think about it as if Lestat was more the Dracula type, and Louis is what would happen if Jonathon Harker had been turned. Or if an angel and a devil had a child on Earth, what would that have been like?

If you like vampires as monsters and the Gothic, and you don't really care for a lot of the new supernatural romances where they have a heart of gold, you will enjoy Interview.

Overall, I enjoyed this but I wouldn’t read it a second time. At some points it gets a bit dull and at others I didn’t want to put it down.

Glad I got that over with
