The way Anne Rice writes about Louis' thoughts about Claudia is creepy and weird. Can't finish the book.

On the one hand, it's kind of relief that a book that I read and enjoyed in high school is still readable; on the other hand, I feel like times have moved on enough that I find myself saying, "Shut up, Louis." "Get a grip, Louis." "No, staring at candle flames for hours on end doesn't justify murdering people every night, Louis." "You know you were a slaveholder, right, Louis? You and your family, even your beloved brother the holy fool, were all vampires from the get-go, Louis."

YOU KNOW YOU OWNED A PLANTATION, RIGHT, LOUIS?

I expected an enjoyable read and instead found the narrator to be at best, annoying and at worst obnoxious. On to bigger and better things...

My first Anne Rice. It took me a while to get into it, probably around half the book. I'm not a fan of Lestat, so it wasn't until Louis & Claudia fled that I was really interested in the story. I'm unsure that I'll be reading the rest of the series. If anyone can tell me if it's worth it, since I don't like Lestat and the next book is called Prince Lestat, I'd appreciate it.

Brave storytelling choices deliver a heartfelt tale of longing, anguish, and desire in Interview with the Vampire. I've read little gothic or vampire fiction and approached this with expectations of bad action scenes and 101 ways to stick fangs into throats, but no, it's an above average book regardless of genre.

Rice's writing is solid, maybe a bit wordy but she communicates emotion better than many literary writers. The plot is creative and well delivered, darkness lurks with innovation and the characters have heart.

If you want some decent escapism that vividly features New Orleans and Paris give it a try. Nice surprise.

It’s very picky of me, but the format of jumping back and forth from present to past broke the immersion for me. It may have been more bearable if quotation marks hadn’t been used the whole way through.

I also found Rice to ramble a bit about Lois’ strong emotions. There was too much telling and not enough showing.

Overall it felt dramatic and did not catch my interest.
