The structure of the story is interesting as a concept (the entire book being a recollection & acknowledging that’s what it is). At times the story would be so immersed in emotions of Louis that it was jarring to be back in scene with the other characters. Some sections felt like they existed only to have a reveal later in the story. Strange moments of child/adult interactions; it’s not quite pedophilia, not quite incest, but an a weird & creepy in between. Overall it’s a solid book & interesting take on vampires.

Apparently, I read this novel years ago and didn’t remember a thing. The novel is far more complicated than the movie or the TV show. Reading this novel (again) also cured me of my vampire fetish. It reads as a miserable, lonely existence that ends in inevitable despair.

I'm late to the Anne Rice bandwagon, but I'm now fully on board.
Typically I am fully against seeing a movie before reading the book, but I made an exception here and watched this movie earlier this year and loved it.
I immediately decided to read the book and I loved it even more.
Louis is an endearing, though not always likable, protagonist.
Rice's writing style is engaging and detailed - enchanting the reader into feeling like they're part of the story.
I so enjoyed this and I've already added more of Rice's works to my To-Read list!
