"A drop of water gleamed on Ayla's lower lip. Strangely, it made Crier want to - drink."
- page 190.
beautifully written. crier's yearning. ayla's desire-woven hatred.THAT. KISS. SCENE. crier thinking of ayla while imagining sex... just beautiful, in all facets.

It was shit, honestly the world building was wonderful but it’s just the mains characters I can’t with them
They are so stupid and ugh, like gurl wake up and act like a princess and like you are in command

This was early in my reading journey so when I rented it I wasn’t aware it was YA. I read it anyway because I wasn’t going BACK to the library. After this string of 6 books I picked up I’m definitely hitting reviews and paying attention to genre before renting. Rookie mistake. I probably would’ve loved this book in my teens.
The not so hidden theme of being ashamed of something within you, hoping others that know your secret won’t share- in fear of it completely ruining you and killing you - is something every queer kid knows. I’ll support any LGBTIA+ book.
I truly did enjoy this world, it’s why I readily picked up book 2.

If work wasn’t such a crap hole I would have finished this in one sitting. It read a bit young for me but I still very much enjoyed it. It also felt new which I was excited about. Extremely fast paced, I do wish we got to know a few more characters in detail, book two maybe? ;) (I’m a slut for character development and world building.) I highly recommend this if you are a fan of YA and want sapphic representation!

I was immersed in this book from the beginning. I wavered between 4 and 5 stars, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about everything and the mystery being presented. This book does a fantastic job poking at the idea of what it means to be human. While still having this hint of romance and LOTS of tension. Immediately downloaded the second book and cannot wait to start.
