It's a very sweet and short picture book. Definitely cried over missing my grandparents.

Written in English (boy) and Vietnamese (grandfather) this is the story of two people who love each other, but don’t communicate well. When the boy starts drawing a superhero and his grandfather joins him with a superhero of his own, the two finally understand each other.

Santat’s illustrations are fantastic and convey old and new coming together. Masterfully done!

Art unites a boy and his grandfather when words can not. Neither the young boy nor his grandfather speak each other's language but they find a way to break that barrier. This one was close to my heart as my son and my parents have a language barrier yet they find a way to love and understand each other. A beautiful message and gorgeous illustrations.

When it's hard to find the words, this story shows you the way. Such a touching book!

Near wordless. In fact, I might have liked it better wordlessly. :)

Beautiful story of bonding and the power of artistic expression.

So simple but so beautifulIncredible visual storytelling.

A grade school age boy is dropped off at his Grandfather's house for a habitual visit. Although the grandpa greets him with a big smile, the boy appears slightly annoyed and downcast. As they sit down for dinner with radically different dishes, the reader finds out that the Grandpa doesn't speak English and the boy doesn't speak Vietnamese. As the day/weekend progress and the communication barrier grows, the boy pulls out his drawing supplies with a smile and creates a wizard version of himself. His grandpa grabs a seat next to him and draws his own superhero version of himself. Through their drawings, they are finally able to connect and have a shared experience.

A beautiful depiction of the language barrier between family members and how we can connect with each other in more ways than words.

It takes almost no words to tell the story of a grandson and grandfather who have an intergenerational divide when it comes to communication, for this is the premise of Minh Lé’s story, Drawn Together, which relies heavily on the terrific illustrations from Dan Santat to convey that sense of division. It also takes very few words to sum up my praise for this book. Well done! Through Santat’s artistry, we witness what grandpa and grandson have in common - a love of depicting warrior sagas, rich with cultural and ancestral significance.

Great book for Grandparents Day in a bilingual home. May even help "draw together" any different generations that find a common ground difficult.

Oh my goodness, well now I want to cry. This was SO SWEET.
