The beginning was so interesting it got me invested in the story right away. However, the more I read, the longer it got... It took a long time before something else happened, something worthwhile. When it did, it soon went back to being boring.

Aside from that, the pages past the middle and the ending particularly are just mind-blowing! I was hoping for a certain development and it did go that way, turning everything upside down and did I love it! It was full of magic, doubts, otherwordly beings, and action. What's not to love?

Also, this book had a sense of travelling to it. The main character, Anna, who is Barren (which means she doesn't have magic in a magically-ruled world), travels with her grandmother to Hungary. I adored reading about them travelling, crossing countries, and meeting other people. There are even a few words and sentences in Hungarian. God help me for it was wonderful!

Moreover, Blood Rose Rebellion had the best character development with Anna Arden I've ever read! I started disliking her for she was haughty and spoilt but as the story progressed, I noticed she was learning how to love other people, or at least accept them. She would even defend a few of the less fortunate. By the end of the book, I came to like her and root for her. Now, if that's not character development done right, I don't know what it is!

I give it a rating of 4 out of 5 because it made me travel in different countries at a different time in a magical world. Plus, the character development in this book will never cease to amaze me. It lost one star simply for the boring parts that were too long.

It was quite an adventure and I would recommend it to everyone who loves magic, fantasy, other worlds, and quests for justice! It even surprised and delighted me.

I really liked the Hungarian setting and aspect of this book! It takes a little while for Anna to actually get to Hungary, but once she does, the book picks up. I enjoyed the magic and the political unrest. One thing I didn’t enjoy was that there are 3 love interests. They are all ‘potentials’ of varying degrees, but they are still there nonetheless. I’m all for a good love triangle! But 3 or more potential people is too many! I almost wish there wasn’t a love interest and the book focused solely on her trying to use the forbidden magic.

Stunning story telling, world building, magic - this book will let new readers fall in love with Hungary, history, and the multi-layered rebellion crafted around a girl trying to determine what her role is in the world.

Nothing particularly new or special to this genre, but still rather enjoyable. This author and story has potential and I'm interested in book two. I received an ecopy of this book through Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

“You're not a half creature . Two ways of seeing should make you better, stronger, wiser. Like the owl, who sees in all directions.”

So I read this on a whim. i do not know why I thought it was similar to red queen,, but it was NOT. It was its own unique, vibrant, world. I was very intrigued with the world and the power system. I do not think I have read about a power system or way of magic like this one before. It was interesting to learn about how all the royals were able to use their power, and the history of it, etc. The actual sprinklings of history, I did skim over, mostly because I was unsure if it was true and to me, it did not enhance the plot. The writing was pretty good. It was not too detailed that it was overwhelming, but I do wish there had been more innner monologue and more inner turmoil, since some of the descriptive scenes were a bit jarring. But other than that, I thought the pace was alright for an intro novel, though I was confused as to who the love interest was supposed to be. And to be honest, I am still hoping for a different one.

Anna just wants to be like everyone else and fit into their society. Becaue of course, who likes being different?? But she learns that being different isnt always a weakness, but a strength. To be honest, I do not feel like I connected with her character that much, but I do admire her desire to fight for her family and make things right.

Again, I do not know who the love interest was supposed to be...I was hoping for one dude, then it was apparently another? Then perhaps anoher? I do not know...luckily this book did not really focus on romance, but rather revolution. I am still hoping that the guy I want gets chosen in the end, lmao

Alright remember this is all my opinion, if you want your own, read the book.

DNF - I really really liked the premise, it had so much potential, but similar to many of the other reviews it was tough to get into (engage), and felt all over the place and like there was a lot of unnecessary formation / thoughts / commentary. Got to page 125!
