i’m trying really fkn hard to get through books that aren’t as good as my favs but god forbid it be actually written well with at least some type of plot. i’ve read fanfiction better than this. it is so cringey and ?? awkward?
there is no spark between the MMC & FMC, only a small history. the FMC needs money, the MMC has it. don’t get me wrong, i LOVE a billionaire MMC but this was so wrong on so many levels. i also internally coil up inside myself when a MMC who isn’t in the mafia or in a fantasy novel says ‘i’ll kill anyone who lays a hand on you’. like dude, you’re a high profile celebrity, there’s no way.
also??? the photo of the MMC & his ex fiancé (who is now engaged to his rival (and ironically the FMC’s brother)) on his beside table??? ew
the dialogue? pathetic
it’s genuinely like a teenager wrote this & had an adult come in to write the smut. i haven’t read any of the authors other works, and i hope i can and it be different from this. i dnf the fine print by lauren asher but liked the dirty air series so i have some hope.
to be fair, i didn’t stick it out till the end, but based on some of the other reviews, i’m glad i didn’t. the plot doesn’t seem worth the effort
anyway, time to go read another mafia book to make myself feel better

I very much enjoyed this book. The smut was good, the plot was decent, and I just love a marriage-of-convenience story. However, the ending was too much. The third act break up was inevitable in a plot like this but the way it dragged on was unnecessary.
Amazing. possesive and protective and a nice twist. Couldn't out it down, had to finish it
Lost interest at 55%. Book was reminding of all of the other fake marriage, possessive husband scenarios. Was hoping that it would be the case for this book but we never got there yet lol

I will say I still wanted to finish reading the book. It definitely reads like a fanfic lol and so much name brand dropping to point out the characters’ wealth. Even evil stepmother and daughter. It was cringey/cheesy. But yet satisfying to read everyone get their just desserts (like I said fanfic). I wouldn’t recommend the book but it’s fine to read. Not spectacular writing, sex scenes are really rushed and repetitive. Pretty straightforward. No regrets reading though.
I have teetered a weird line with CM books - this was the nail in the coffin, this will be my last. Her books are written worse than a soap opera, and have so much unnecessary angst. The ending where Elena flips for absolutely no reason made me want to DNF at 70 something percent. Also, the chemistry was non existent IMO.
The twists and turns that this book takes were crazy! I think it did a pretty good job navigating sexual scenes of Alec being dominating without it feeling icky and not consensual. Alec also did SO much for Elena I truly think he always loved her because he really did a lot to help her out. Also the parts of this story with Alec's brother melted my heart, they were so great!! Also when the grandfather rescinded his requirement for marriage I think that really set the ending up so beautifully!
2.5 stars, I suppose? The concept is great, but the execution is lacking. The dialogue comes off, to me, how teenagers or inexperienced young people talk. The spicy scenes were all the same and it kinda felt as though a man wrote them. They were... lacking, to put it politely.
What I did like was the short little revenge story against people who wronged her. It could have been much more flushed out, but it was still satisfying to see some sort of justice.

I really enjoyed this book and I think it did really great but the last 10% was what really got me to give it a 3 instead of a 4 or 5. I absolutely love the tropes in this book and it was why I decided to read it since it's been a while and I've never heard of this author. Although the ending wasn't my favorite, this is still a really good book and I do think that it's worth reading.
It was just really nice to read Elena and Alexander's story. I couldn't put it down and was reading it nonstop. There were many great scenes that I just absolutely loved and I enjoyed reading them getting together and figuring out what they were to each other.
Overall, this is a good book but there could've been better character building between Elena and Alexander. I feel like Elena started becoming hypocritical in the last 10% of the book and that's my biggest ick in books are when characters are hypocritical or just not themselves without showing that growth. The book did remind me of Voyeur by Fiona Cole which if you like that book then I feel like you would also enjoy this one. Although, the similarities aren't that many, there are a few.
