(2.5 stars) this…… was just okay. There’s something about it that I just didn’t connect with. And it felt like it dragged on for an unnecessarily long amount of time. The plot was kinda (or very) unrealistic and just kinda silly. I feel like nothing important happened until the last couple of chapters. Definitely not the best thing I’ve ever read.
Disappointing
Yikes, I don’t know how this book has such high ratings. Weak story line with many plot holes. The FMC is annoying and whiney. The dialogue is cringey throughout the entire book. Even the spicey scenes were a let down. I would not recommend this book, even as a “light read”

Cat never disappoints. Alec and Elena’s story has completely won me over! The pacing was perfect, with each scene feeling so natural and their connection effortless. Alec’s denial about his feelings is both frustrating and endearing—he swears he’s not in love, but still calls her “my wife.” You can tell from the start that they’re meant to be.
The proposal was a total game-changer. I had to pause for a moment because it came out of nowhere, but it was still so dreamy and perfect. It was the moment I realized that Alec had finally accepted what we all knew: he’s in love with Elena.
Elena’s mom waking up from her coma and instantly protecting her daughter hit me right in the heart. I could relate to Alec, as someone who didn’t believe in love, but Elena’s heart is undeniable. She’s pure, loving, and deserves everything good in life.
I can’t forget about the side characters—they were just as captivating as the main ones. And Alec? He’s so stubborn! He’s in love but refuses to admit it. But the way he tried to be everything Elena needed? It was so worth it.
The pain and heartbreak Elena endured made me root for her through every page. Alec wasn’t perfect, but he tried his best, and in the end, they found their happily ever after. It felt like a healing moment for me, too. Maybe, just maybe, there’s a forever for everyone.
I think I just found my favorite story by Cat. The perfect mix of romance, heartbreak, and growth. I’m so glad I went on this journey with Alec and Elena!

Good story line, as usual for Catharina Maura. I wasn't overly keen on the over the top resistance to love and the I own you attitude of Alec. I get belonging to someone, but the way he said it most the book implied she was selling herself for more than him, and she definitely wasn't. She even said she hadn't been with more than one other person ever. And while I get why, it felt like a cheap shot every time it was thrown out. Most issues in the book was his short temper and short-sightedness. But I suppose the plot can't move forward without conflict.
Great read.
I really enjoyed this story. Alec was such an alpha-hole to Elena he was very lucky that she forgave him but they did make a good couple, when she stood up for herself!

"You always ask me about three good things that happened during my day, but baby, everything good in my life is you. The three best things to have happened in my entire life were meeting you, marrying you... and falling in love with you."
