The book is slow and maybe harps a bit too hard on MFC abandonment issues. I get it, she had a rough life at home and sucks at expressing her emotions. I wanted more from the story but overall it was entertaining and an easy read. I started with AKOI from this author, a series that I loved, and this felt like a downgrade in comparison. I intend to read the rest of the BBS series and hope that it gets better!

I feel like if they had listed this book as a romance first, pirate story second I would have moved my expectations around and probably rated it higher. It has a lot of good elements, but it never really gripped me. The most interesting parts were when Drakes treasure were mentioned, unfortunately the book spends a lot of time with the characters longing looks at each other.

There are a LOT of pirate elements, ports, treasure, rival ships, etc but it gets overshadowed by the character angst. I ended up skimming a lot of the second half, because I had pushed through that far I was going to finish it.

Definitely okay, just not what I was hoping for.

I loved this book, the adventure drove me in so much, at some point I really couldn't put it down. I'm in LOVE with Knigh which is ironic because I was doubting I would be at first. I do feel less enthusiastic about Vice, but she's a GREAT character. I just vibe more with Knigh's character flaws. I'm definitely going to continue the series

Boring and slow, male lead was unintelligent and not very likeable or interesting.

i think it would've been higher if i could've fully fallen into the story but i was reading it on my breaks at work and kept getting interrupted. not the book's fault at all. eager to dive into the other books

this was a fun book to read! definitely a quick read and far better than I anticipated! i love all things pirate and sea related. the relationship between knigh & vee is also one of my favorites! i really, really enjoyed knigh and I actually think he is the stronger character of the two. i don't typically like miscommunication tropes but this book actually did it well in my opinion, aside from the ending! however im definitely continuing the series. im hoping the plot begins to build a bit more.

in terms of plot, there were definitely some weak points. it was a quick read, a little over 300 pages so I'm not necessarily surprised it was heavy on romance, and a bit weaker on the plot. the betrayal plot was good, but the ending was a bit weak. this is the first time in a series I am NOT on the female protag side of things. mostly, because the "miscommunication" was her fault so I'm interested to see how book 2 goes.

I wish the author had tied in the secondary characters a bit more. the author attempted to set up a found family, but it felt very surface level so I'm hoping to see that further explored and developed in the next books.

I also wished that more was explained regarding vee's previous life, especially since it's brought up so frequently. but I believe there's a novella about it so I might check that out.

overall it was a fun, quick read! definitely continuing the series and I recommend if you're looking for something to get out of a slump!
