All of the characters I love in this series and make Harry interesting (Mouse, Michael, Thomas, Maggie, Susan, Murphy, Bob, Molly as mortal, and to a lesser extent Charity) are all sidelined or minor at this point. Butters has his moments here, but it doesn’t feel like enough. Chicago as fantasy war zone sounds like an intriguing idea, but without more of the characters I love it falls a flat. This was a rough one for me. Harry just seems to be moving from action scene to action scene in this one, like he himself is just trying to get to the end of the book so it can be done in order to move on to the next one. Maybe this would have been more interesting if a good chunk of it were told from other characters’ perspectives as they intersected with Harry.
Heart wrenching but very good
What can I say? This book is full of battles, hope, loss friendship and humanity. Unlikely allies and enemies. If you were unimpressed with Peace Talks, this will make it up to you

After the events of Peace Talks, we knew a battle was coming and it all goes down along the shores of Chicago. Almost the entire novel of Battle Ground takes place during the witching hour as we witness the White Council, White Court, Summer and Winter courts, Marcone with his people, the Knights, the werewolves, River Shoulders the sasquatch, and heck even Bob battle the Fodor, and Ethniu the last Titan.
The battles, draws of power, and alliances were epic. We suffer losses and I wept and cheered. In between destruction we see friendships, enjoy moments of snarky humor, and weep along with our characters. The odds are against them, but this is Harry’s city and he won’t let it fall.
At times the story felt almost like the end, and my stomach churned, but looses ends and some surprising developments left me excited for the next installment. I cannot wait…
The audiobook is around seventeen hours, but it felt like just a few as I became completely engrossed and lost sight of the outside world. James Marsters is brilliant. His voice has become the voice of Harry and these characters from Butters to Mab.
The audiobook has a treat at the end… it’s a Christmas story and exactly what we needed. Thank you, Mr. Butcher. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Ended up liking this a lot more than I thought. I mostly like the pacing. Maybe it helped that i was listening to audio book? Although I did not like how he chickened out of one of the things I was looking forward to in the end.

Boss fight!
This is likely the most action-packed book yet. I don't want to say anything else, but this was amazing. Kudos, Jim Butcher!

Not really into the fact that the whole book was essentially one big fight scene.
Battle Ground is the epic conclusion to Peace Talks, and it shows. The story wraps up the previous entry nicely, and reshapes the landscape of the Dresden Files in very significant ways. The combo of Peace Talks/Battle Ground is one of the better entries in the series; I only wish they were edited down into single tighter book, rather than two incomplete novels. 3.5 stars
