still reading. the wait was worth it. Nobody writes like Jim Butcher and the doesn't write like anyone else.

My favorite parts of the Dresden Files books are the characters and the witty banter. The knowing the subtle funnies that Butcher adds to the novels always make me smile. My least favorite parts are the war and the battles and the everyone running around going crazy.

Unfortunately, Battle Ground is almost all the latter. While it has it moments of fun and witty banter as well as some incredibly emotional hits, a entire book about one battle was difficult and eventually just monotonous to read. Especially since we KNEW Harry would prevail in the end. That's how these stories run.

The denouement was spectacularly written and a stroke of genius on Harry's/Butcher's part. I absolutely loved it.

Damn.

SO MUCH HAPPENED. But also....only a major battle happened. AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT FOREVER.

I wasn't a big fan of peace talks, but Battle Ground is now my favorite book in the series. In general, characters in seris (tv, books, comics) stay relatively the same, but this book highlights how every character, from Harry to rarely seen side characters, have changed over the years by how they respond to the war zone that has broken out all over Chicago. Some ppl grew better, some did not, and some you don't know which way they'll go. I felt like crying in some parts and laughing at others. For new readers, I would start with peace talks if you don't want to read the other 16 books in the series. it dragged for me because I knew all the back story from previous books.

Disappointing. A “kitchen sink” book without nearly as much fun.

This book is so big. It’s so encompassing and it feels like Butcher just wanted to shove as much as possible in one book. & I was not emotionally prepared for so much of it! Oof! I feel like this was the book to wrap up the end of DF. I’m curious what the next one is going to bring. Especially with Marcone. I did enjoy it overall, though.
