This was a a good read at the beginning and towards the middle it kinda dragged on a bit and once it hit the climax it finally got good. I just feel that the ending left on an awkward not because I feel that there could have been more done with Evan's character and the others involved with the situation around him

This book hurt my heart in ways I never expected it to. I adore the songs from the musical and I thought I already had a clear picture of how the story went, but was I wrong. Reading this just makes me want to see the musical in real life more.

tw really problematic literary usage of a character's suicide

meh. i mean, the writing was not revolutionary. none of the characters were interesting, least of all the main character. and what is it with popular internet musicals and being severely problematic in some way?

this boy evan hansen had no idea who this kid who killed himself was, yet he still dragged himself into a whole situation involving him writing imaginary letters to himself and connor in order to... boost his status? talk to connor's sister? dumb!

Dear Evan Hansen is something I normally would not pick up. My reading taste ventures closer to fantasy and long, dramatic series. This book was a light-hearted, fun read that deals with depression, social anxiety, and suicide. I honestly did not expect to enjoy this book...but I was proven wrong.
I got this book from my brother's wonderful girlfriend, who is just as obsessed with Broadway shows as I am. From Hamilton to Wicked, I love Broadway shows. But Dear Evan Hansen just never seemed to click with me. Until I read this amazing book.
Dear Evan Hansen follows high school senior Evan Hansen who has major social anxiety. He has no friends what-so-ever and believes his life is a total failure. But then Connor Murphy commits suicide. And Evan Hansen was the last person to have seen him alive.
This book took so many plot twists I was not expecting, but all at the same time, they fit so well. Confusing things, in the beginning, were finally revealed at the end, giving me this 'complete' vibe.
I loved the characters in this book so much and I really enjoyed reading in Evan's perspective. I, personally, am very outgoing and I love to hang out with my friends all the time, but I used to be that socially awkward and anxiety-filled kid. I still am, but I have been able to cope with it a lot better. This book brought back a lot of memories.
Great read!

I'd already heard a lot about this book. Of course the mentions of the musical have crossed my path, just like I had quite a few friends telling me that this was such an easy read for them and that they enjoyed it so much. But, I was kinda afraid I wasn't gonna like it, because the blurb suggested quite some stupid for the sake of drama. And I'm totally allergic to that.

But, yesterday I was like: I'm just gonna give it a chance and 120 pages in I was already pretty sure that I was gonna love it. Yes, of course Evan is not the smartest person around, but his motives are very noble and pure and kind. At a lot of moments he wants to do the right thing and come clean, but it's very understandable why he doesn't, why he keeps on lying, just making the lie bigger and bigger. And it's totally understandable why in the end, people forgive him for it.

In a lighthearted and almost funny way, this book deals with some heavy and important issues. It deals with loneliness, it deals with anxiety, it deals with the fear of not meaning anything and being forgotten when you die. There were moments that Connor and Evan really touched my heart with small quotes that just hit very close to home.

Of course, it also felt a little bit like watching a disaster happen in slow motion. I knew that at some point everything would collapse and the truth would catch up with Evan, but it was an interesting and emotional road towards that final crash. And I'm glad that Evan didn't get hurt too badly. I know that good intentions don't mean anything if the deeds don't back them up. But in Evan's case? I'm willing to look away and give him a pass.

I'm kinda curious to listen to the music right now. I might look it up on Spotify!
