I was really looking forward to reading this book but certain word choices kept pulling me out of the narrative and took away from my overall enjoyment of the story. That being said I'm really looking forward to reading book two, Broken Open, Tuesday and Ezra's story because I love interracial couplings and tortured characters, love seeing them heal.

Nothing click with me. The characters are 1 dimensional. The story does not picking up. And way too much sex.

I got through the whole book, but at no point did I feel like there were actual stakes to the relationship. Natalie and Paddy just kind of drift along, very ostentatiously attempting to Have Conversations about their Issues, but Paddy is basically a spoiled rock star who doesn't understand why he can't fix it. The narrative kept telling me emphatically about their chemistry but I didn't really believe it. The side characters who are clearly sequel bait were more interesting, but I already know enough about them to predict how their stories are going to go, and thus have no interest in reading them.

The Best Kind of Trouble is the first steamy installment in Lauren Dane's spin-off rocker series, The Hurley Boys. Although characters from the Delicious and Brown series make guest appearances, The Best Kind of Trouble can be read as a standalone novel.

Paddy Hurley and Natalie Clayton spent a wild couple of weeks together back when Paddy's band, Sweet Hollow Ranch, was just beginning. Fast forward twelve years and both of them are in very different places in their lives. Sweet Hollow Ranch hit it big soon after their fling and Paddy is a well-known rock star who enjoys the perks that go along with fame and fortune. Natalie is now a librarian who values her safe, calm and controlled life. When a serendipitous meeting in a local coffee shop brings the two of them face to face, they are still attracted to one another but Natalie wants nothing to do with Paddy or his rock and roll lifestyle. Paddy has done a lot of maturing too but convincing Natalie that he has changed his wild ways is next to impossible.

Natalie and Paddy's relationship is a minefield due to Natalie's tumultuous past. She has finally found a way to leave the chaos of her childhood behind and she has firm boundaries where her family is concerned, but unfortunately, they continue to try to manipulate her. Letting Paddy into her life is not easy for her, but he slowly but steadily gains her trust. After a few missteps in the beginning, they have an open and honest relationship where they actually talk to one another about their problems and they work together to find solutions that work for both of them. The conflict that arises between them occurs fairly late in the story and wow! Total shocker that pretty much left me reeling and wondering what in the heck sparked that very out of character reaction.

Natalie and Paddy's sex scenes are well-detailed, scorching hot and plentiful. Paddy excels at dirty talking and Natalie is stunned by how much it turns her on. For the most part, Paddy is fairly laid back and easygoing, but in the bedroom? He is in complete control which gives their encounters a bit of a dominant/submissive vibe. Nothing too over the top, but when Paddy tells Natalie what to do, she is quick to obey and she enjoys every second of it.

The Best Kind of Trouble is a truly lovely romance that is sweet yet very sexy. The cast of characters is beautifully developed, down to earth and immensely appealing. The storyline is well-executed and very realistic. Natalie and Paddy's relationship is believable and it is such a joy watching them fall in love. It is a strong beginning to Lauren Dane's Hurley Boys series that will leave readers very impatient for the next installment.

3.5 maybe? Great characters, lots of hawt encounters, but it was hard to distinguish between brothers. And also everyone, just everyone was supportive and nice. Also possibly too much discussion of "pushing buttons". But a steamy contemporary romance in Hood River! So that was fun.

It took some time to get into for me, but an enjoyable read.

Librarian heroine without all the librarian stereotypes. Nice.

As I believe I have mentioned before when I am looking for contemporary, sexy romance, Lauren Dane is one of my favorite authors. Not only does she tend to base her books here in the Pacific Northwest but she really brings her characters to life. So I am sure that it doesn't surprise anyone that I jumped on the chance to review the first book in a new series set in Hood River Oregon.

What I loved the most about THE BEST KIND OF TROUBLE is the characters. Natalie is a woman that I could really relate too, especially her need for control. This is a trait that one finds common among children that were raised by substance abusers be it alcohol or drugs. I never became a librarian though I did think about it. And Paddy is just the kind of man I fell for when I was younger though the ones I found never had the heart of gold under it all.

The plot is moves along nicely with the help of some secondary characters that make me very happy that THE BEST KIND OF TROUBLE is only the first book in the series. I want to know what happens with Ezra and Tuesday as well as the rest of the brothers.

Oh and I did mention sexy. Well let's put it this way, the tension between Natalie and Paddy is off the scale and I am very happy that everything wasn't left of the imagination. This book would have melted a block of ice.

I do recommend this book to any of my adult readers that enjoy a hot, contemporary romance. Scenes do get explicit but don't involve any whips, chains or Great Danes.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.
