This book was... interesting. What I thought it would be and what I got are very different. It felt as if each of these women, namely Kemi and Brittany relied way too much the appeal and approval of white men which made it uncomfortable to read at times. Especially when said white men in the story are fetishizing black women. I thought there was maybe a lesson it it but there wasn't. Muna had the nost interesting story but It didn't mesh well as a whole with everything else going on.
Overall, this book felt like ideas on a notebook that never were fully fleshed out. Part 4 left us with more loose ends than we started with, and concluded with such an abrupt ending that I kind of feel like the author got bored.

Thank you Source books for the gifted copy! Love how the characters shared so many similarities but were so richly unique in their own way. My heart felt for them in so many ways and I hoped to see them have a little different/more complete endings. Truly wondering if there will be a book 2 so we can learn what happens next :)
I enjoyed this book despite it not having a happy or satisfying ending. Such is life.
We follow three black women with a commonality: being black women in Sweden. The three women face different circumstances/situations while navigating the culture, but these circumstances are full of racial trauma. All while being connected by the same man.
It was interesting reading about black women in a different culture.
Tanesha was my favorite character.
I received an ARC to read and provide my honest review.

Part 4 had a lot of new things happening quickly which makes the ending feel unfinished
Kemi, Brittany and Muna are three women who have two things in common. Their skin color and Johnny von Ludin, CEO of the largest marketing firm in Sweden. Kemi is the definition of a boss, but fails at love. Brittany yearns for the life of wealth, status and luxury, completely unaware of what it brings. And Muna, a refugee who has lost her family seeks to find her way in a new place she hopes to call home.

This book explored racism, tokenism, immigration and much more. It was definitely a slow burner for me and I almost didn’t finish it. I loved how each character had their own set of problems and were distinctly different. I liked how social issues of Sweden were included. I don’t like Johnny. His character gave me the heebie jeebies. I don’t like that his behavior seemed to be due to being on the spectrum. Brittany’s story was weird. I would never make such life altering decisions that go against my instincts, but that’s her business.

I don’t think I would go out of my way to recommend this book, but if it’s on your TBR go for it. It just kind of missed the mark for me.

Great premise. I really wanted to like this, but the writing started to fall apart halfway through, most of the characters felt 2-dimensional, and the ending… did she get bored of writing this?
I don't know what it is like to be a Black woman, so my take on this story could be way off, but there were a lot of things in this book that felt really off to me.
Like how all three women felt as though they were being portrayed as *needing* men. As though their worth was determined by their proximity to men, especially white men.
Whilst I'm aware that Black women are frequently made to feel this way, I would have liked the book to counter this falsity instead of buying into it.
Plus, using autism as the excuse for Jonny's toxic behaviour was just plain offensive.
