I’m realizing characters make or break a book for me, and I don’t know how but somehow I was equally interested at all three of these characters throughout the book. Sometimes it was that I wanted to yell at all of them, but nevertheless. I loved how different their stories were with notes of the same struggles throughout, with some of the same struggles we as black women have all felt. Adding in the complexity of them trying to navigate life in a country that often doesn’t see past the color of their skin added another layer that I loved, as well. Good read and I couldn’t wait to start the sequel!

This is one of those books that was on my TBR forever - I promised myself I would actually read what was on my TBR, but this was one that probably could’ve stayed on it. I gave 3 stars because I understand where the author was going with this and I liked her writing style. The end was so abrupt that I was left a little star struck.
