I think this was my least fav so far. I liked Cassies Pov and I loved the introduction to my fav Ax but at the same time, like book 3 I felt the plot wasn't as great. That being said Im glad I picked it up and it was such a quick read that I look forward to seeing where it goes.

"But it isn't necessary to belive whales are as smart as humans to believe that they are great. They don't have to know words to sing songs." This was the book when I remembered that somewhere along the line, this is a series about how animals are cool.

But also Marco almost drowns and sea and laments, "This is just like how my mom died."

But whales are cool.

Animorphs was a good series that kept me reading. Enjoyed these as a kid.

As the group experiences the environment of the ocean and its different inhabitants, it presents a completely different world from what we've seen so far. Cassie's perspective offers a look into the ethical repercussions of being an Animorphs and the responsibilities their morphs take on. The whale is the coolest character so far!

Weirdly enough, despite being our narrator for this story, Cassie feels pushed into the background to make room for new developments in the groups’ relationship with the Andalites as well as a deeper understanding of Marco’s character.

There was, however, a very interesting development of Cassie’s relationship with the animals surrounding the group. Before this installment, we hadn’t gotten much interaction between the morphed children and the other animals in their environment.

The assistance gained in a major battle opens up the door for how the team can potentially win the future war.

We ALSO (!) got a significant new member of the team (and I really hope he sticks around)

CW: war, blood, violence, reference to character death, grief

I didn't have any complaints at all with this installment in the Animorphs series. I had forgotten about Ax as a character (I remembered the concept of him being with them but not what he was or where he had come from) and it was fun to remember and be re-introduced to him. I thought the author did a good job of using dolphins to introduce the gray morality of morphing, but she presented a pressing enough threat that it was definitely justified in the end.

I think this may be my favorite book in this series so far. I really liked the plot line of this one. The mystery of who is sending Cassie and Tobias dreams and how they end up figuring out what it is.
Like always, the description of being the animals is so amazing and it really makes you feel like you are also becoming that animal. I also really like how each kid narrates the books. It's not one kid narrating all the books. It's great how whoever is narrating the book has the biggest part in that particular time. And you get to know each of them better that way.
Unfortunately, the next book I own in the series is #17 I think, so once the pandemic lifts a little bit, I'm going to have to scour the thrift stores!
