Does a brilliant job of progressing the plot while introducing motifs we will see (primarily through Cassie) for the rest of the series: sentience, animal rights, captivity, the role of humans in the lives of animals and the planet

This installment was super cute and I love seeing the plot slowly develop. The kids running into
another andulite
really helps to progress the narrative on how some random kids are going to help save the world.

I really liked returning to this one. I love being in Cassie's head--I think I relate to her the most out of all the characters. I love the way this story imagines whales and ocean life as well. I enjoyed Cassie finding her motivation in wanting to protect not just herself but earth as a whole. This is a good one.
