I remember why Cassie and Tobias are my favorites, but I do like all of the kids. And Ax shows up! Judging by his characterization here, I seem to recall that he suffered a mild amount of character assassination throughout the series, but I can't really fault this book for any of that. Great descriptions of morphing as usual: I remember reading about being in dolphin morph really sticking with me, and for good reason. I cried a little at the part with the whales: spiritual ocean stuff always gets me.
A solid 4.5/5.

Cassie books are generally boring ones, to be honest but this one introduced the character of Ax so was a good read. I like "hearing" the different voices of the characters but Cassie could go on a bit about morals.

Waited too long to write about this one.
Changes the status quo in a meaningful way by introducing Ax, a new alien member of our Animorph squad.
The series is usually careful to not romanticize or anthropomorphize the real animals with which the characters interact. But whales prove the exception.
This is our first water based adventure; our heroes run into dolphins, fighting sharks and saving whales.
This series had a short-lived TV adaptation in the 90s. I HAVE to see a few episodes.

Cassie ones are the best. I also don't remember Ax being this early!
