I hate to do it but I had to DNF this one.  I had a really hard time connecting with any of the characters, especially the main character who I found to be fairly obnoxious.  My TBR pile is way too big for me to spend any more time on this.  I’ll look up spoilers and move on.

I picked this one up because I’ve heard so much about Holly Black and wanted to see what all the hype was about, plus I don’t usually read mystery thrillers and thought it would be fun to branch out. Unfortunately, this just didn’t work for me.

I made zero connection with the characters, which made it hard to feel invested in the story. The premise had potential, and of course I wanted to know who the killer was, but it all just felt a little too unrealistic.

Jet literally gets out of the hospital after major head surgery and then spends the next week running all over town (like, no way!) That really pulled me out of the story.

I pushed through mostly just to get to the ending, but even that was a letdown since I had already called it about halfway through. Overall, it just fell flat for me. I can see why some people might enjoy it, but it wasn’t my kind of read.
