Well, this book was a ride. The narration style took some warming up to for me, but I did get into it relatively quickly after the attack happened. I'm just gonna head straight into spoiler territory because I want to just share my specific thoughts on things.
The misdirects were a bit obvious in my opinion. I guess they kind of worked because I didn't guess "whodunit." But I also never believed any of the possible suspects. I thought it was Billy almost the whole time, especially after the comment at the beginning when Jet says/thinks "that it obviously couldn't be Billy since he found her. blah blah blah. no one ever returns to the scene of the crime." I don't know if that was intended to be a misdirection right from the very beginning, but it points you very close to the answer. If I had really sat down and tried to sus it out while reading I think I maybe could have gotten it before the discovery that Luke had a different father? Because the killer did also return to the scene of the crime. In my own defense, before you know Jack is Luke's father, he doesn't have any motive. I guess you could deduce that there was some connection there before it's spelled out, but I just assumed that Dianne blaming Jack was a mother's desperation and grief holding onto any reason/person to blame. Especially since she also blamed Jet.
Also, ngl, I feel like the murderer being someone who works on the police force is not that great of a twist. I think sometimes it's a really great twist, but not in this case.

Holly Jackson is an expert at keeping the reader on their toes with her thrillers, but also able to pack and emotional gut-punch of epic proportions. Jet was awkward at first lol but she softened on me throughout the story (we all deal with grief in such different ways, I had to take my own head out of it for a bit). Jet's relationship with Billy was so endearing, I fell into step with their detective partner shenanigans. Made a week with them feel like a lifetime :') I will say, as this is Holly Jackson's first novel in adult fiction it still read SO MUCH like YA! I think it will take some time for the adult voice to truly come out, characterization reminded me too much of AGGGTM. (But seeing as I am a YA fan, I still enjoyed) A 4 star read for me :D

I didn’t expect such a predictable book from Holly Jackson, but I still loved it. It’s a true page-turner with a well-structured plot. While reading, I couldn’t help but wonder what I would do in Jet’s place if I only had one week to live.
Jet was snarky, indecisive, and definitely not someone I’d be friends with in real life—but I rooted for her so much. Her journey kept me hooked, and I’m glad I experienced it alongside her.
This book left me feeling sad, so now I need to pick up something lighter to lift me up.

I'm once again stuck on the fact that – despite really enjoying the plot – I find Jackson's prose just incredibly meh. This was fine in YA, I think, but I had sort of expected a slightly more refined writing style for this. Honestly I just... don't understand why this was marketed as Jackson's first adult thriller when tonally and content-wise (not in the sense of it feeling like a repeat, just that it wasn't any darker) it was so similar to her previous work, except for the nominal fact that the protagonist is in her late twenties rather than her late teens.
Anyway, I know I sound like a hater, but I did actually really enjoy this novel. The mystery was twisty and compelling, and I enjoyed the characters and their various dynamics. Jet is kind of a bitch, and I adore her. Also, the tragic aspect was hugely fun for me — I'm a sucker for doomed narratives, impending character deaths, and the unfulfilled aspect of Jet and Billy's relationship. Big angst fan, if you couldn't tell.
