The epistolary presentation of the story worked very well for this novel. Matt Beaumont was even able to convey some of the character's personality via the syntax and tone of the emails they wrote.

That said, it took quite a while to get a hold of me, but when it did it was a joy to read. If you're the type of person who wants to gain something from reading you might want to skip this book, as it's entertaining, but that's about it. But if all you want is to be entertained then this book would be an adequate choice.

A novel told entirely in emails - it's been done before, but Matt Beaumont pulls it off better than most. He certainly seems to have enormous fun lampooning a world he knows well. The characters are somewhat two-dimensional, but that's inevitable in this type of book. It's an entertaining, light easy read, and there's nothing wrong with that once in a while.

This is an interesting book written entirely by e-mails. I had mistakenly thought it was e-mails between 2 people, but instead it is the e-mails of an entire office of an advertising agency. It's written so that you can follow what's going on from a number of angles, and easily spot all the backstabbing and office politics going on.

Because of the way that it's written, you don't really get to know any one particular character. As such, it's difficult to get really "involved" in the book. However it's an entertaining read all the same.

I'm not quite sure HOW to rate this book. I mean, I really didn't enjoy it at all. But, I can't just give it 1 star -- it's not terribly written or anything --- it's just not for me. For one thing, I'm not British. I don't "get" British humor. If you're British, was this book funny to you? Let me know -- I'm curious.

But, on the other hand, I can't give it 4 or 5 stars -- because, well, I just didn't like it. There were too many people. I got confused. The idea of telling a story entirely through email is fun -- and I've read successful attempts at this style in the past. However, "E" just didn't hit the mark for me at all.

So, the story is about a British advertising company trying to land a big deal with Coca Cola. There are other smaller deals along the way, a lot of weird people have a lot of weird ideas, people get fired and hired back, and lots of inappropriate things are said and done in the office.

Like, I didn't really *get* the British version of THE OFFICE, either. And yeah, I know it came first. But I didn't laugh. I totally laughed at the US version of the office.

So, if someone redid this to be more Americanized, maybe I'd laugh. Or, maybe I wouldn't. In the end I was disappointed. I mean, all these pages -- and --- they didn't even get the deal.

To call this book a blast would be an understatement. The story was unexpectedly amazing and must read for those who like laugh-out-loud funny stories written in email epistolary format.

Set in early 2000, the story follows Miller-Shanks advertising employees a few days after they jump into the new year. They've been called back to work because there is a big pitch for them to nail and their London CEO demands perfection if it must come with blood, sweat, and tears. What follows is outrageous acts of self-righteous behaviour, hilarious betrayals, in-house fights and epic disasters that just pull every character together.

It's worh the read, My favourite character being Pretti from Finland, no spoilers, I promise but he is the absolute best. It's a fun ride, a firework and a big laugh. And when you finally get close to the end you'll find yourself holding your breath to cross that finish line.
