This book should be handed out outside recruiting stations along with a few others - not that people should never go into the military, but they should have a balanced understanding of what they're getting into rather than the candy-coated mythology they'll get from ads, TV, and most movies (I'm speaking as a retired Marine here). A powerful story of loss of youth and innocence that has been lived millions of times in dozens of wars.

This book is about as anti-war as it gets. There are no heroes or villains, just a group of young men surviving the western front of world war 1 as well as the main character feeling alienated once he goes home on a temporary leave.

I had to read it for school so not by choice so keep that in mind...
The storytelling for that time is really good.
I expected it to be a sad book but honestly said...it is not...
But overall for a war novel it is kinda good I guess
