I think I would have thoroughly enjoyed this book if I was on vacation, but it doesn’t hook me enough to stay reading in my day to day.
Incredible premise, failed to deliver. I wanted to get into Bonnie's head, and we got glimpses (conversations about gender and trauma were interesting but unfinished), but the book left me unsatisfied. I wish we saw more! Not sure what role Rita served, years pass by with no commentary. Environmental nitpick: extremely unlikely for the TOP of a mountain to be muddy (even though it's flat).

The premise of this book was unique and captivating, and I didn't expect it to be such a heavy read, but it was really well-written. I have mixed feelings about the ending, and I wish some parts had been fleshed out a bit more, but overall I enjoyed the story.
Graphic: Gun violence, Mental illness, Murder
Moderate: Alcoholism, Animal cruelty, Animal death, Rape, Grief, Death of parent, Toxic friendship

girl is depressed and traumatized. girl wins insane amounts of money. girl decides to escape society and live in a replica world of her favorite show.
honestly cant fault her for that one bc i'd probably give my life the finger and fuck off to eric foreman's basement (but only season 1 and 2 of That 70s Show bc the rest is ass and if you don't agree with that then thats a you problem) if i had the chance.
anyway i dragged myself through 20% of this book (which is, believe me, very little) until i realized i did not care about the story nor about what the hell the protagonist was doing.
