This rating is kind of deceiving because I really did like this book! But had I not known ahead of time that Jace and Clary are actually NOT related, this book would have creeped me the heck out. Incest isn’t something I really want to read about...
Love, love, love. So much love for this book. It's equivalent to as much as the love there was being shared, in the book. It was so action-packed, I just loved it. There is no other word. I. Loved. It. Every page turned was an adventure ending, and an adventure beginning. Cassandra Clare is a goddess. Or better: The prophet who's in the middle of creating the Bible, more commonly known as The Mortal Instruments.
Okay. I thought this was better than the first book. The story was a little more catching, less confused. I cared a little bit more for the characters. But I'm still not loving it. I will finish the series but compared to the "Fever" series by Karen Marie Moning, I don't think I'll love the books as much...
I did enjoy the book, but the only thing I didn't like was the long drawn out conversations and many of the boring parts of the book. Once I got past those parts, the book was enjoyable and made me want to keep reading.
I have a pretty good idea on what may be coming between Jace & Clary but even still, I found some things kind of....ick! A bit too much for me..but, hopefully what I'm thinking about those two will happen and it can move on. Hopefully it was take place in City of Glass and she doesn't continue to drag it out. If she does, that may be the part that frustrates me the most. Those who have read it, may have an idea of what I am talking about here (but I do not want spoilers!) Those who haven't? Well, sorry if even this much seems "spoiler-y" :-)
I will take each book as they come and that will determine if I am willing to continue to give this series a try. I really do want to finish it so I can give the other series a chance as well. I'm wanting to know where she takes it and what it's about (again, no spoilers please. I like going into books not knowing a whole lot, just enough to see if it's something I'd be willing to try)

This was a definite step up from City of Bones! I debated between 2 and 3 stars but I'm bumping to 3 because it really is an improvement aside from one aspect.
Pros
-Cassandra Clare's writing has improved from a technical standpoint. She had some really nice imagery throughout
-Vampire Simon!! I thought Clare's take on vampire transformation was interesting
-Luke really grew on me. He's such a good dad
-That graveyard scene was so creepy
-Despite the longer chapters, the plot and pacing were more engaging. I flew through this!
Cons
-The incest subplot was so gross and too big of a part of this book. Look I know they're not really brother and sister but they DON'T know that and it's just weird. Feels like she could have added drama to the relationship without pulling that card.
-Clary is still annoying
-The unseelie court scene
