I feel like I'm having the worst luck. I hated this so much.

Firstly, curly fry is not the cute nickname you think it is

Secondly, the whole "plot" of this book just isn't accurate like.. can't you only be drafted once? I'm so confused

Thirdly, there was no fake dating. This was all real insta-love dating with a very weak reason for some intense "hate" *if you could even call it that 🙄

And lastly, I was so bored for a good 98% of this book. So so bored.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this at all...

 This was extremely average.
I felt absolutely nothing while reading this. Maybe some irritation at the grammar and spelling errors, but nothing else.
I didn't like the characters, mainly because I didn't know anything about any one of them.
I also don't love second chance romance (my fault for going in only having read one quote on like a TikTok). And this was 70% of not talking and 30% "romance" and spice.
I also feel like the author made weird pacing decisions, especially with the out of pocket plot twists.
At the end of the day, this wasn't bad. It wasn't great either, but I read it.

I actually really liked this book! Maddox had no chance hating her. I’m glad they were able to find each other again!

Oh you poor jaded souls I will freaking die on all the hills for this one. It is all my favorite tropes wrapped in one sporty/fluffy/spicy package. In fact I am even willing to over look the only cringeworthy factor… “Curly Fry” 😑 …Great so now that we’re past that I will forever be on the hunt for my own Maddox.

P.S. Teddy Hamilton? GeeeZUS, yes please!

The obsession the male main character has with the female main character. I’m obsessed.

Two fav micro-tropes and one of my fav kinks- did you write this for me Hannah? How absolutely unexpected!

Dual POV. Childhood friends to lovers. Curvy heroine. Forced proximity. Fake dating. Second chance. No third act breakup.

They kind of end up in a predicament where our MFC steps up because she feels like she owes the MMC. Did I- the reader- feel like she owed him? No. That was kinda dumb but it got us to them finding each other again so I’ll roll with it.

Anywho, them finding each other as kids and just knowing they were each others ppl was so believable and warm through this. I adored them getting to a place where they admitted to each other that they both held on.

This gave me warm fuzzy vibes and that’s what I’m here for.

✨ second chance romance
✨ hockey romance
✨ childhood best friends to strangers to lovers
✨ fake dating

Maddox makes one mistake and the NHL needs to do damage control. When he runs into his childhood best friend who can help with the bad press Braxton says yes hoping to right some wrongs she made when she left 8 years ago and help with the mess her own father is causing to Maddox’s career. But seeing the best friend you’ve always been in love with is hard on Maddox and he’s not quick to forgive. But this could be both of their second chance to make amends and move on after, but when fake dates have real feelings could they do things better than the last time they were together?

This is a second chance romance between two best friends and what they missed out on 8 years ago. Maddox is now in the NHL living his dreams and Braxton moved back to Vancouver to open her own vet clinic. But when they agree to fake date they think it’s a way to both get closure but you don’t love someone for most of your life and just move on.

I appreciate this author got them to clear the air early on in the book and gave us a chance to watch them confront the mistakes they made and get over the hurt they feel. Maddox was holding onto his anger but being around Braxton has always been good for him and soon the fake moments are not enough. We get a really good “Who hurt you” moment and if that doesn’t make something tingle there’s a lot of spice to keep you going.

The sports aspect and getting the flashbacks of moments in their past was very good as well. I don’t usually love second chances but this felt more like right person wrong time. Everything about them refocusing out their friendship while being in love with each other was perfect.
