Honestly DNF. I got half way through and i was just struggling. I really wanted to like this but anything i was writing down was hate. It is a great concept but the execution is so so poor.

A great example that even in a fascist state, women or anyone who doesn’t identify as a man, will always have it worse. Even in a fascist state, men will always be privileged.

bit unfortunate that i started this right after the OG 1984. didn’t find the characters terribly convincing but the final section qualified as a highlight.

Mother of divine. This book is excellent, but a tough read. It's at least 15 years since I read 1984 but it all came screaming back to me. Really well told

1984 from a female perspective. Julia Worthing is re-imagined in this excellent novel by Sandra Newman. It captures the main threads of the original with the Ministry of Truth and Big Brother but from a feminist viewpoint. The narrative describes Julia’s life in detail and what she has to do to survive and her involvement with Winston Smith. Newman’s take is daring and doesn’t shy away from the brutality. Not for the faint-hearted but a satisfying read.
