Though full of tropes and a healthy dose of one-dimensional thinking, I enjoyed this book so much. I’m fully hooked on this series now, especially with the introduction of new characters and more plot development and world-building. What a fun read, with great twists and stakes.

I felt like the beginning of the book dragged a bit, but as always with sjm books the second half of the book was a whirlwind. I thought the progression of the story was interesting, and am eager to pick up the next book in the series.

The series seems to be getting slightly better with each book.

In this installment we get a bit more character development. Considering the length of the novel, not enough happens though.

I enjoyed getting to know Rowan but didn't care for the introduction of the witches.

I wanted to read this book as I've never read any of Sarah J. Maas’s work and I was interested to see what the hype was all about. I was kindly gifted this series and A court of Thorns and Roses by my parents. So I thought I would start at the beginning. I really enjoyed the first couple of books so I was excited to carry on with Heir of Fire.

This book still follows nineteen-year-old Celaena Sardothien. She has now free from the King of Aralan though he is under the impression that she is on an important mission for him, but she is on an important mission for herself. Celaena has survived deadly contests and a lot of heartbreak. Now Celaena is traveling to a new land to confront her darkest truth, a truth about her heritage that could change her life and her future forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed?

I still bloody love Celaena, and she is getting stronger and more badass and I love her journey during this novel. I just want her to be happy but also absolutely kill everyone and kick people’s ass. I loved reading this book from the multiple point of views which were Celaena’s, Chaol’s and Sorscha’s - it made the storyline interesting and kept me hooked. Also, I am so sorry to Chaol but I would like a Rowan instead of Chaol . . . I just loved how he was like you are nothing to me and I don’t care about you, to who the hell hurt my future queen because imma kill them. Now I'm lowkey rooting for Rowan and Celaena rather than Chaol and Calaena. I just want everyone to be happy and the Dorian’s dad to be dead because he is getting to be a pain in the ass.

I missed Fleetfoot during this book whilst he was with Chaol and Chaol was too busy creeping around. I also hated what happened to Dorian and Sorscha, I just want Dorian to be happy and I thought Sorscha was adorable and a complete sweetheart. I don’t really care for Manon and I don’t what the arc is going to be and what the connection is going to be. I think the difference between Manon and Celaena is going to be very important and is going to lead somewhere every freaking exciting.

This book left you with enough drama and cliffhangers that it didn’t feel rushed but also left you wanting more that it kept you hooked. I don’t believe there was any weaknesses minus missing Fleetfoot and not really getting Manon. I cannot wait to start to next book in this series and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes kick-ass girls, fantasy novels and dystopian novels.
