So good but definitely a world building book. Lots of interwoven plots and different POV. Last 150 pages are VERY fast paced and make up for the slow beginning.

THIS is what I’ve been waiting for out of this series. I feel like Maas always hits it right on the head with the 2nd/3rd books in the series- probably because that’s when she really gets into the meat of it. I love Rowan! I think I was waiting for a character like him to show up- his interactions with Aelin and the other characters are just a lot more interesting than some of the central characters in the first 2 books.
My main complaint is that a few of the POVs didn’t interest me enough from the beginning. It took me a while to care about Manon’s and Chaol/Dorian’s chapters, especially because not much was happening in the beginning. I ended up being surprisingly invested in Manon’s story (and I’m interested to see where the stories intersect), but in the beginning I kept wondering how it was directly relevant to the plot of this particular story. The end of the book really shone, and Dorian and Chaol’s POVs got infinitely more interesting (OMG), and I am really excited to see what comes in the next book.

I am absolutely loving the Throne of Glass series so far but Heir of Fire was so slow!!!! I’m not sure what it was, because I understood the necessity to further the story along but everything Chaol did annoyed me. His storyline is important and he drives the plot a lot but I could barley get through his chapters. I didn’t care for Dorian in this book, which sucked because he was my favorite male character. He seemed childish. Still love Aelin and her storyline and I love her character development. Rowan grew on me in this book and thank goodness because I didn’t want to not like him. Overall it’s just been my least favorite Sarah book so far.

Rating: 5/5 stars.

Started a bit slow, but absolutely glorious by the end. Celaena was at her whiniest and most annoying for the first half, and I felt like the book stagnated slightly in the middle, but the payoffs at the end were all worth it by a mile.

This was the best book in the Throne of Glass series so far. I didn’t feel very connected to Celaena as a character until this book. After reading, I feel like I understand her more. I am also looking forward to reading the next book, since it left off with such a cliffhanger! I’m still not sure how Manon fits into the story just yet. I feel like all of the witches and parts with Bryaxis was for nothing??? I know it probably fits in later, I just don’t understand how yet.

Okay this is definitely my favorite throne of glass book so far. Strong character development, the overall series plot is really picking up, and the emotions are running high. I laughed. I gasped. I fucking sobbed. Especially during the second half of the book. I had to take a few breaks to just put it down and do something else for a few minutes.

I did have some small problems with logic/continuity but that's not to say it won't be explained in the next one?? Most of it was probably just me being nitpicky though bc my husband is like that and I swear he's contagious.

You can really see SJM coming into her writing style the further you get into the series. I love how she writes people falling in love. I'm doing the romantic reading so I'll be doing the assassin's blade next and I'm really excited to just be emotionally devastated as so many people have claimed. 🥲
