this book almost put me in a reading slump :( the first couple chapters started off strong but then the story just got very slow. it was also very hard for me to follow all the world building and different bloodlines being introduced. I only felt motivated to read because I felt guilty for not finishing this series when i’m almost already halfway through it. there’s also sooo much smut in this book. as someone who gets severely seasick, it’s completely wild to me that smut is used to distract a character from being seasick.

It took ~445 pages for this book to get interesting at all. I will say the last hundred pages of the book did have a few interesting things but they definitely didn’t redeem the whole book. If I hadn’t already purchased this AND the next two books of this series, I probably would have DNF’d.
The writing is still sloppy, awkward, and overall just not good, but I had accepted that from the previous books. The system of gods/deities/creatures just gets more and more convoluted and is so nonsensical that every 50 pages someone can just claim to be an entirely different thing and somehow we’re supposed to just accept it. Same with the main characters parentage and various characters identities.
Despite having read at least the first three books in this series, I will never recommend it to anyone and I’m currently taking a break to read something entirely different, knowing there is a good chance I will never return to this series.

WOW! What a cliff hanger. I will be keeping my eyes out for the next book for sure. Compared to the first two books, this one definitely started off a bit slow. Without the whole “enemy to lovers” dynamic, I got a bit mushy. But the action in the second half of the book definitely made up for it!
These characters give me life. I paused my reading multiple times for book club and seasonal reading. Embarrassing how long it took me to finish this one. School was getting in the way, but I LOVED THE RIDE.
