I really like the Hunger Games series, although I could finish Songbirds & Snakes. This book was less gory which I liked. I usually enjoy world-building, but I felt that this one was repetitive and used the same language frequently. I enjoyed learning more about Haymitch and highly recommend the epilogue bc it ties it into the Katniss/Peeta story. I thought they foreshadowed things like the water tank that didn’t even end up to be a big deal, but I understand it was all snowballing as rebellion so there could be a huge retaliation. It was sad, but I saw it coming.

This book made me dive into a rabbit hole of Hunger Games lore. It’s also means so much that it was released in today’s America…
It was fun tracing connections between the different novels and is worth reading to the very last page.

I enjoyed this enough! I haven’t consumed any Hunger Games media in like 12ish years (only even saw one of the movies!) so the fact that the formula is similar to the first book didn’t matter as much to me. The ending felt so insanely rushed but I guess that was the point? This seemed like kind of a missed opportunity but oh well I still liked it enough to read it pretty fast. If you liked Hunger Games 13 years ago and remember liking Haymitch, yeah give this a shot.
