This book on Haymitch was really enlightening and really sad. I was really intrigued by the whole premise of the book because I wanted to know more about this character. Once you get to know a character and their story it leaves you with a sense of transparency in who they are as a person. Overall good book, it felt a little slow and repetitive at times with the poems but I enjoyed entering into this world again and being able to read about Haymitch. Ballad of the song birds is written better and felt a lot faster than this book, but reading haymitch’s story isn’t a “feel good” one so it can be harder to get through. It’s bleak and sad but I’m very happy we get more of a background on him.

I'm happy that Haymitch has gotten his happy ending with Katniss and Peeta. But Jesus, was he traumatized.

I feel bad for every negative thought I had about Haymitch in the original trilogy.

Excellent and entertaining read! My main complaint is that the pacing felt off; slow before the arena and then too fast…especially at the end.

Don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here picking up the shattered pieces of my heart that are scattered all over the floor.

This story fits in perfectly with the rest of the Hunger Games stories. I loved the connections it shared with both The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and the originally trilogy. I especially enjoyed the glimpses we got of some of my most beloved characters and what lead them to the choices they made, and seeing where certain things and tokens originated.

The last few chapters hurt, but the epilogue, ugh my heart! I really didn’t think I could love this series more than I already did, but I’m so glad I was wrong!
