I absolutely loved this story. Not only is it set mainly in Scotland, but the way the author weaves the strands of the story together is done so well that I had to read it in one sitting. This book has gone straight onto my favourites list.
The idea of turning a run down van into somewhere people can indulge their love of books is a brilliant one. Around the islands of Scotland there are many businesses who use this kind of thing as a way of getting to people living in remote places. I actually remember the butchers van coming round the streets near my Gran years ago, and I know it is something which has slowed died out in many places. This story had me seeing everything in my head as I read, imagining the places and people.
Not only do we have the main story, but there are many side stories as well. From a family struggling to survive, to a man missing his family who live many miles away. Then we have the main female character, Nina. I connected with her so well throughout the story and couldn't wait to see what happened to her, the business and her love life. I have to say that my very favourite page, not chapter but page, in the whole book is the very last one. Not because it's the last page of the book, but because of what it contains. Suffice to say it finishes off one characters story extremely well.
Absolutely loved it, would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading books! Huge thanks to the publishers for providing a copy via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Very sweet book. Great writing and characters.
Quick, easy read. Not a whole lot of meat to the plot, but liked Nina's quirky character. Loved reading the parts about her uprooting her life and creating the book van. The romantic pieces were fine, figured she'd end up falling for Lennox, but it felt a bit of a mess to get to that point. An okay read.

This book came into my life at the perfect time. I saw it on some list for end of the year reading and it sounded wonderful. I read it the day after our disappointing election. I just disappeared into her world of Scotland, books and hunky farmers. I actually think this is my favorite book for 2016. Well done, Jenny and THANK YOU
Book #108 Read in 2016
The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan
Nina is a librarian whose library is downsizing and going digital. She brings carloads of excessed library books home every night after work. What will she do with these books? What will be her next job? She goes to Scotland to look at a van for sale in the hopes of starting a mobile book shop. Will a job be all she finds or will she find romance and a place to call home? This was a good, quick read with aspects of romance and humor in, as well as homage to books that bibliophiles will love.

Super cute and cozy. I totally identified with the bookisms. Recommending to all my bookish pals.

Well shoot, just gonna say it. I’m a complete sucker for these modern day Austen style books. They do it for me.
Did you love Sanditon and Bridgerton? Is Mr. Darcy your dream bae? Was Guernsey Literary potato pie (lord help me with the name of that book) your jam? If yes to any and all, you’ll enjoy this book.
Also, how many bookish girls need a full on career change right now? *raises hand* We’re all out here questioning how come we didn’t think of this idea first!
Knocked a star because the ultimate love interest was a little lackluster for me. I wanted to get to know him more! I wanted to really feel for him! I wanted him to not be such a stick in the mud until the very very end. Anyway, I liked him but his character dev just felt a little off to me.
This book deserves a Netflix series tho for real. I’d go to town on it.

I feel like I’m being repetitive, but again, it started our really slow.
And the title has nothing to go with the book! But I enjoyed it nonetheless. I’ve been wanting to read it forever. I admire the main characters skill to acutely pair a reader with a book, I’ve yet to ever meet anyone with this skill, but would absolutely love to do so.
I love seeing the strength in starting over, despite her struggle to allow herself to love. It was a great read that was very different from what I anticipated — but that’s the great thing about reading!!
