I had really high expectations for this book. It is set in Scotland and I was really excited to read about Nina and her adventures. Some parts of the book were quite charming, but overall it was pretty boring

Sweet bubblegum read. Good for brainless covid-19 reading.
At this point, I'm just glad, that I finished this book. It started off great and then just became more boring and annoying. I guess we've drifted apart with the main character at some point. One more mention of sad puppy eyes and I throw my kindle out the window.

I absolutely loved the author's style of storytelling and I would have given the book 5 stars had it not been for the intermittent crude language and sex scenes/references. I feel a book can be romantic without needing to portray sexual acts. I would love to read more from this author but minus the foulness.

Nina matches readers with the perfect book. It is her favorite part of being a librarian but, when the library branch where she works closes, she finds she either must reinvent herself to fit the new media center library mold or take a chance on starting her own bookmobile. When the perfect van is found in Scotland, Nina takes a leap of faith not only in starting the book van but also in moving to the small town in Scotland where she finds the van.
Needless to say, as a librarian who loves doing reader’s advisory, this book just yelled to me. I discovered it in my search to find a “book about books” for the 2017 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge. I was so excited to read a story about a librarian who turns bad luck on its head and takes on a new challenge all while recommending books that change a person’s life.
Sadly, I just felt like it should have been more. There were missed opportunities to tell so many side stories about people who visited Nina’s van. Of course, the exception was Ainslee and her brother, Ben, and that was a terrific exception. There also was not as much book recommending as I would have expected given the blurb. I was expecting my TBR to grow by miles as I added books mentioned within the story but, sadly, I didn’t add a single one.
I enjoyed Nina’s journey but the romances fell flat and seemed forced. The setting was amazing and a story in & of itself. In fact, the setting was so well done, I was ready to hop a plane to Scotland. I had never thought about the long days and nights given its latitude. I could easily get used to all that daylight, right?
