It’s Emma by Jane Austen, there is really nothing more to say. Of course, it is brilliant.

Emma is my favourite Austen protagonist; her wit and flaws make this so enjoyable. You can see Austen’s growth as a writer and the levels of humour in Emma spill out of the page.
She keeps us guessing throughout, who will end up with who? Even if you know going in who Emma ends up with – it's enjoyable to watch the rest of the characters find their partners.

The missing half star is the age gap and the "I’ve loved you since you were 14" line. I know Emma is ‘of its time’ but honestly, I just can’t push past it.

Pride & Prejudice will always have a special place in my heart, but it now has to share the gold medal of Austen novels with Emma.
First of all, there are so many amazing characters in this. I loved just about every one of them, but of course Mr. Woodhouse is, and will always be, my king. I just see so much of myself in his anxious, comfort-loving self.
Also, the romance is surprisingly mature. The way that Emma and Mr. Knightley's romance advances feels very natural and realistic, and I love how they are able to point when the other is behaving wrongly (though that would be Emma most of the time).
Lastly, it's funny as hell.

Don't feel like reading something that I know the story by heart right now. I want to read a story that's new to me. I love this story though. So so much.
