I never really liked this story as much. The millers daughter is a liar, the king uses her, and then there's this weird guy who's able to turn straw into gold.

I love Rumpelstiltskin. It has been my second favorite fairy tale for as long as I can remember. I hadn't read it in a while, and decided to again. I still love it; still an all time favorite.

Rumpelstiltskin is about a daughter who gets basically sold off to the prince to spin straw into gold. She doesn't know how to do that so she ends up owing three things to Rumpelstiltskin , but to keep her firstborn child, she has to find out his name. Find out how she figures it all out! I recommend this version for elementary age because it is more simplified. The illustrations have a cartoon feel which is even better for the children.

This version made the story much more understandable. Usually, things characters do in old fairy tales make no sense to me but knowing it in context helps. The King is young and greedy in this telling of the tale. Rumplestiltskin is a little like Gollum and Smeagol because he's divided about helping/hurting the miller's daughter. On one side he is sympathetic but on the other he is scary.
Probably my favorite telling of the tale that I've read.
