This one hit in a really relatable way. I’ve gone through my own midlife crisis before uprooting my life, not exactly like Fern, but close enough to get it 😂 It doesn’t lean quite as cozy as the L&L, but it’s still fun and explorative.

What I loved most was the thread of possibility running through the story. Even when things got messy or uncertain, there’s this sense of renewal and of moving forward that kept me hooked. Maybe that’s why I enjoy fantasy so much.

This was also my first time listening to an audiobook narrated by the author, and it made such a difference. Travis clearly knows the characters inside and out, and that comes through in a way no one else could deliver. It made the audio feel extra special, and the pacing was smooth. Also, I was able to easily differentiate the characters.

I’ll definitely be picking up a physical copy once it’s out because I want to read it again. And now I’m tempted to grab the audio for Legends & Lattes too, since I enjoyed this one so much.

Thanks NetGalley and Macmillan Audio
for the early listen! All options are my own ❤️

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC of this book.

This was so cozy! It felt like I was hanging out with old friends. It's a nice adventure with some new characters, and familiar faces. I enjoyed learning more about Fern, and Zyll and her many pockets coat just being adorable and removing her shackles to just put them back on, like she just wanted friendship and an adventure too! Astryx's sentient sword reminded me of something out of Monty Python, it was wild and hilarious.
Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and this book is a perfect example of it. I was laughing out loud with this one. Travis Baldree is a cozy fantasy genius, his descriptive settings and the way the story flows just swept me away. I didn’t want it to end. I loved listening to it, and I will definitely be getting a hardcopy for my shelf when it's out.

Sometimes happiness does not means opening a store of your favorite things. Sometimes you need to go look for it! And as much as I loved the other two books with the bookshop and then the coffee shop, it was nice to see Fern go out on an adventure to find what she felt was missing. And boy was it exciting yet cozy too with an accidental stowing away (drinking sure can lead to unexpected actions!) into a wagon used by the famous warrior, Astryx and the awesomely crazy yet always has the thing that is needed, Zill, the chaos goblin! Yes, there is quite a bit of action (saving a village from a tree being, fighting off others looking to claim Zill's bounty, etc.) but also the quiet moments with Fern composing letters to Viv, or even a bit of reading in between the battles and the conversations with Nigel and Breadlee (who is totally awesome!). You get the nice found family, good friends, and finding what makes you happy, even if it not what you expected and it might not look like what other people dream of. If you enjoyed the other two books in this series, you should enjoy the charm of this one, even if there is a bit more of the classic adventure story (it is even has a tentacle god!). I loved seeing an expansion of the Legends and Latte world and hope that Travis Baldree will keep finding more stories set in this world!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me enter this amazing world of Travis Baldree one more time and see Fern again finding her place and happiness, even if it is not in the bookshop  (though I would love to visit that bookshop anyways and see Pot Roast!).

Brigands & Breadknives by Travis Baldree
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Thank you to Tor publishing, NetGalley, and Travis Baldree for an advanced copy!

Slipping back into this world feels like settling in with coffee and a pastry - warm, familiar, and just the right amount of chaos. This time we follow Fern, everyone’s favourite foul-mouthed bookseller, whose fresh start in Thune quickly spirals into drunken mishaps, chaos-goblins, and mercenaries with bad intentions.

This installment was definitely more action-packed than the previous novels, but it still keeps that cozy heart Baldree is known for: friendship, self-discovery, and a reminder that change is rarely simple. Fern’s sharp tongue and reluctant growth made her such a joy to follow.

If you loved Legends & Lattes and Bookshops & Bonedust, this is another treat you’ll want to sink your teeth into.

You aren't stuck. You just need to go on an adventure with a legendary warrior and their.... prisoner? to shake off the dust of life!

While not as "cozy" as the 1st two books in this world, Brigands & Breadknives was full of charm and adventure while also making you sit and think... "am I happy with my life? Or do I need to step out of my comfort zone?"

I truly loved the ups and downs of this story and could not possibly love Zil anymore. I want more of their adventures! While at moments I felt the story was going to be predictable, I was thrown a curveball that kept me on my toes.

I will be highly recommending this to fans of Travis Baldree & lovers of charming adventures.
Grateful to the publisher and netgalley for the chance to read this in exchange for my honest thoughts.

A story of Fern, a bookseller turned reluctant adventurer looking for personal renewal, purpose, and peace - finds herself caught up once again on an adventure with some rather eclectic travel companions. I'm sure Fern would raise a glass to the themes of bravery, nostalgia, and finding yourself again.

Redwall meets D&D in this nostalgically descriptive adventure of unlikely heroes. Another entertaining installment to Travis Baldree's "Legends & Lattes" journey, most assuredly worth the read if you enjoy adventure campaigns.

I had the opportunity to listen to Macmillan Audio version and I loved it. Travis Baldree's voice is a unique blend of soothing and abrasive (trust me it worked for the characters) and I felt myself be lulled into the adventure, the moments of contemplation, and the action. The narration was very well done, clear and articulate at varying speeds. It was a pleasure to listen to.

2/5 stars - I enjoyed the first book, the prequel less so, and this one least. The "cozy" element of this series for me came more from the initial set-up of the shop and the interactions with the townsfolk. This one was just mostly adventuring, fighting, and wallowing. I'm not sure it was a necessary addition, maybe just not something I like after the first book.
