I give this book a 4 1/2 star ratting. Book #2 of the Dust Land series did not disappoint. The characters in these books sure don't live boring lives!!

In Rebel Heart, you'll see Saba struggle with what she's had to do to survive and who she's become because of it. Lugh (her brother) has also changed dramatically because of his time being captured by the enemy. Everyone believes Jack has turned traitor; what else could he be after all, since he's now a Tonton?

This book took so many unexpected twists. You see Saba's spirit nearly broken, shocking betrayals, and relationships irrevocably damaged. This book kept me glued to the pages, never knowing what to expect next.

DeMalo plays an even more interesting part in this book, one that I'm excited and terrified to see the continuation of in the third book.

I would highly recommend anyone to read this series. Admittedly, like the first book, the authors' writing style can be difficult to get used to but if you can, it'll definitely be worth your while.

TOTALLY SHMIZZLING AMAZINGGGGGG :D The story is filled with suspense, adventure, quite a bit of violence and LOADS I REPEAT LOADS of plot twists you never saw coming. The characters flesh out a bit more here and we see a lot more of Saba, Lugh and some other characters' inner sides and feelings. The ending was very unexpected and a little sad, but you can just tell there's going to be another book!!!!!!!!! SO EXCITED FOR IT OHMIGAWD. The book is also great practice for doing a twangy American accent if you read it aloud :)

Not as good as "Blood Red Road." Saba was so out of character in some parts, I'm hoping it's resolved in the final book (tell me she was drugged or something!).

The best part about this book is DeMalo and the revelations about his motives. It’s a good continuation of the first book, and the new characters are good but I like the first book better.

Oh my gosh when I got this book I was so excited!! I waited a long time to read this... Blood Red Road is one of my favorite books, so I had high hopes for this one.
The action/adventure aspect did not disappoint. I read this book very quickly because I could just not handle the suspense, haha! One of my favorite things about Blood Red Road was the parts with Saba and Jack...which there wasn't really much of in this book. I missed them because their interactions always made me laugh, but the other characters were still entertaining and interesting. However, there was this one part near the end that I found to be super random and just didn't seem like something Saba would do. I know she makes really rash decisions...but it just didn't seem like her. I don't know, it's probably just me and not the book, but it made me not like the book as much as I think I would have. I probably would have accepted it more if the part didn't seem so random and unlikely...oh well!

Rebel Heart was a bit of a let down after the excitement of Blood Red Road. Rebel Heart opens with a snippet following Jack right after we left him in BRR.

Character-wise, we meet some new people but there isn't much growth for anyone besides Saba, and even then, it's negative growth. She's uncertain, constantly worried, plagued by spirits and things that might not be real, and spends a majority of the book in emotional turmoil. While this is normally something that creates great tension in a book, it only made Saba incredibly annoying. She was no longer influencing the plot--the plot seemed to be pushing her around for about half the book.

Furthermore, the plot itself wasn't quite clear. I found myself wondering when I was going to see some action, some conflict to get me out of Saba's emotional turmoil and into some external problems. When there was external conflict, it was almost entirely related to Saba's internal conflict and often dealt with some romance-y problem NOT between Saba and Jack.

Jack was the one saving grace to this book. While he doesn't get a lot of screen time, he's Saba's primary motivation now. Every time he shows up, he sparks an inciting incident, which gave the plot some flavor.

Overall, Rebel Heart was a bit of a let-down after Blood Red Road, but I'm still intrigued about Saba and Jack. Hopefully Raging Star is better.
