Jacob's character turned into someone Polar opposite of what we saw in New Moon and Twiloght. He's first presented to us as a good friend and childish, and yet in Eclipse he's shown as forceful
Then we have Edward who. To Meyer's credit stays the same possessive, manipulative and controlling self. Only its amplified to all hell,
Not to mention the writing is nowhere near what it has been in past books. One part that sticks out is forcing the phrase 'informed on me' instead of simply saying that Jacob 'told on me' or ratted me out or anything that would make sense for a teenager to say. Bellas dialogue has never been that formal before.
The book was also so repetitive, I found myself skimming through chapters most times and would never really lose any of the plot.
For me this book read like the characters started to build and the story was forming into something Steohanie Meyer's hadn't planned for it to go, but instead of following that path, she chose to strong-arm what she wanted to happen which ended up in a forced, boring, and painful read for me personally. The characters didn't follow what she set up for readers in the two books prior, her writing was weaker than before, and the plot felt like it dragged on.
Moderate: Emotional abuse

Eventually, the werewolves and Cullen Coven are able to form a shaky alliance to bring down their common enemy. Vampires.
I love this book. There's so much going on and so many connecting plot elements. This was originally meant to be the end of the saga, but Stephenie pushed for her original ending. Eclipse ties up all the loose ends, is plot heavy, and manages to get lots of romance in there.
Graphic: Self harm
Moderate: Blood
Minor: Death, Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Pedophilia, Racism, Sexual content, Suicidal thoughts, Toxic relationship, Violence, Kidnapping, Gaslighting, Toxic friendship, and War
Bella cuts herself to distract the vampires. She also imagines herself as a heroine who sacrifices herself via suicide (ie stabbing herself with a knife).rebekken's review against another edition

Especially when it comes to Jacob. I kinda touched on this with my review of New Moon, but Meyer really just hammers in a lot of toxic Native traits that just make me go ick. And the fact that she makes Leah the most annoying charcter when Leah should be one of the most sympathetic characters in this universe.
And I don't why it wasn't super obvious before BookTok that Meyer was a Mormon but omg, listening to this on audiobook and having an hour of purity culture drivel is mindnumbing.
Sidenote: if you want to feel pure anger, listen to like the last fourth of the book stuck in Bay Area rush hour traffic while hangry. It just makes you want to crash your car.
Why am I continuing this series? Are the nostalgia points worth just absolutely shredding the logistics of the Lochness Monster in the next book?
