This was great but recently books have just not been hitting the same. Specifically the Ravenel series and I think it’s because in my mind no one compares to Tom Severin. I really did enjoy this one though except for West denying himself Phoebe because of his past.

What did kind of annoy me was Phoebe not reassuring West that his old reputation wouldn’t be too much damage to her children by telling her about her dad, but I guess maybe that’s Sebastian’s story to tell🤷🏻‍♀️.

edit: I just realized why I didn’t want to give this book 5 stars even though I loved the entire book while I was reading it. ITS BECAUSE IT DIDNT HAVE AN EPILOGUE!!!

4.5 Stars. Lovely and I adore a West so much. I'm greedy though and needed more from the ending.

Another solid read from Lisa Kleypas! I was excited to read this one after watching West develop throughout the other books. It really was his turn to find love. I guess you could read this one as a stand alone but I highly recommend the entire series. A must read if you like historical romances!

Lisa Kleypas did it again! She never ceases to amaze me. Everytime I open a new book of hers, I fall right back in love with her words and worlds and characters. Despite how cheesy it sounds, it really does feel like coming home. It's cozy and warm and you feel like you could spend hours lost with the Hathaways or the Ravenels or the Wallflowers.

Devil in Winter is my favorite book of hers and one of my favorite books of all times, and so rest assured I was SO HAPPY this was about Phoebe, Evie and Sebastian's daughter and West Ravenel because we got to see so much of them in this book. Every scene with my man Sebastian put a big, fat smile on my face. It was simply amazing.

West was very close to stealing Sebastian's spot as star of the show in this book because LORD, DID HE MAKE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM! Swoon! He was yummie beyond what should be allowed!

I loved Phoebe. She was so independant, ressourceful and strong, the kind of heroine I love to read about! And her kids! Can we talk about how ADORABLE they were?

This book had it all: swoony romance, adorable family, amazing heroine, hot hot hot hero and a whole lot of laughs and great banter! Highly recommend!

I've been wanting to get into historical romances for a while, but I never knew where to start. I happened to find this book in a thrift store and thought it sounded interesting so I decided to give it a try. (Yes I know it's the fifth book in the series, I wasn't totally lost I promise) I'm so happy that I tried this out because I loved it and now I want to binge the series.

I really liked the setting at the beginning of the book. Of course, I didn't know anyone (But upon reading the rest of the series and the Wallflower I can really appreciate all the interactions) but I still had a good time, and I really enjoyed the exploration of the manor.

Phoebe was a really interesting protagonist to follow, I thought that her being a widow was an interesting choice, I loved her relationship with her sons, and I thought that her kindness and patience were admirable. One thing I really liked reading about was her change of heart toward West as her preconceptions were dismantled bit by bit.
It doesn't hurt that he saved her son from a bull, he is kind to his tenants, and he is HOT because he works in the fields and is out in the sun lol

West. Oh West. I loved this man from the beginning. I like that he accepts what he's done in the past and doesn't shy away from it, but it's clear that he's grown a lot and he is utterly in love with Phoebe from the start. He's really sweet but also strong, and it's so sad that he doesn't feel like he's good enough for Phoebe- but he so is!

I really loved how the characters grew in this book individually, and as a result, this led to a very satisfying romance that not only had great chemistry but it's built from a strong foundation of friendship that's already been put through a lot due to both of their pasts. I also really loved Phoebe's sons and I thought that their interactions with West were really sweet and added to the story so much.

Not only was this a funny book, but it was also heartwarming, and at times pretty emotional, considering the fact that Phoebe is still dealing with the reality of her late husband's death. I'm so happy that these two took a chance on each other, and that Phoebe let herself love again, and opened her heart to a man that loves her beyond words.
