This was a solid 4 stars for me. I'll admit I did take longer than normal to finish it because it took awhile for me to really get into. But, it was super cute and full of the usual historical romance mushiness. West is adorable and I loved Phoebe. The angst wasn't quite what I thought it was going to be. The ending was super rushed and no epilogue... boo!! Thus, one star taken away. Would I read it again? Maybe.

Just truly a virtually perfect romance. I loved every single moment of it!

Aff. Amei. 4.5 ★

I love this book! Phoebe, Lady Clare has never met West Ravenal, but she knows him as a brutish bully who tormented her late husband. Her husband Henry told her all the stories of how West bullied him in school. She hated West for what he had done to Henry. Now she finally meets West at a family wedding and of course there has to attraction. West feels deeply attracted to Phoebe and as their relationship blossoms and they face obstacles, he feels he doesn't deserve her in any way. Can Phoebe convince West that he deserves the love she wants to give? Read and find out! Recommend fully. I loved this book from beginning to end. I didn't feel like anything was rushed nor forced in this story. Reading this book made me want to reread The Wallflower series though. ❤

4.5 Devil-ish stars

Let me preface by saying that I had many little nit picks with this book in the beginning; and by no means is this a perfect book. I had issues with Phoebe’s character, everyone kept treating West and Phoebe getting together as a foregone conclusion almost from the start, everything was just a tad too sweet, blah blah. And before I knew it, it was the middle of the night and I was more than halfway in, and there were just so many of these little moments in the story that had me sighing and smiling and crying just a little, and I realized that the author had me under her spell yet again, the wily minx!

I also had another reason for loving this book. One word, Sebastian, former St. Vincent, now Duke of Kingston. The high handed, meddling, sly old duke can still charm the pants off of anyone. I love West, but I love Sebastian more. You can tell from the writing in the scenes he’s in that the author has the same love for one of her most famous heroes that her readers (i.e. Me) do. Once you read the book, the title finally makes total sense, since this book is as much a love letter to Sebastian as it is West and Phoebe’s love story. And if a lot of my reasons for loving this book are wrong, I don’t want to be right 😉

Ahem, now that my love letter to the Devil is over, I was also happy to see more of Severin who’s always intrigued me, but I’m still bothered that we hardly ever get a glimpse of Cassandra. I’m sure the author has her reasons and grand plans for the final installment of the series, so I can’t wait to find out.

I enjoyed this for the banter, I like that the hero wasn't alpha, which it seems like the majority of her heroes are (not a knock - her books are some of my favorites), but the end trailed off for me

Just wasn’t feeling this one, or not in the right state of mind for it.

Phoebe, Lady Clare (daughter of Sebastian and Evie from Devil in Winter), married her best friend, even though she knew he was dying. But she had loved Henry from childhood. And, because she loved Henry, she hated the boy who made his life at boarding school hell. Even now, two years after Henry died. And that is especially true now that she's confronted with the boy, er, man himself now that her brother is marrying his cousin.
West Ravenel sort of remembers his school days. He knew that his parents made him a miserable creature who took out his pain on others. When he grew up, he became an indolent rake. At least, he was until his brother unexpectedly inherits a financially insolvent earldom along with a widow (now his brother's wife) and three female cousins. West, much against all expectations, stepped up and became an exceptional estate manager.
Just coming out of the haze of grief, Phoebe realizes that what her father and brother have been telling her is true, she needs to start paying attention to estates, especially the one that is going to her son. And, now gathered for her brother's wedding, she has the perfect chance to ask West about the new changes in farming. If only she can get past Henry's past hurt...
An okay book but not as good as some in the Kleypas canon. Especially since I reread Devil in Winter right before this one.
