elizabeth acevedo, are you okay? anyways, so good. the evocation of grieve is well written. i've noticed that with acevedo's books, the plot seems dragged on for a while; until it is resolved at the end. i would say that 75% into the book, the storyline seems repetitive for about 50 pages. after those fifty pages, i find myself excited to continue. this might be for suspense, or just something i've noticed.

i’m stuck between these two ratings because the book was something i didn’t expect. like yes we learn about two daughters that found eachother but honestly this book was so much more.

this book was so heavy. and the writing style made it the book so easy to fly through but also gave it so much emotion. i’m in love with these characters bc i connected with them on so many levels.

being dominican, this book was such a huge representation for the community. and having family in DR, the story really portrayed everything it was so realistic that it hurt.

i love this book because of the representation, the characters, the story. just yes. (my favorite quotes belong on pages 323 and 416!)

Lyrical in its presentation of the two families a patriarch leaves behind, Clap When You Land feels like it could go deeper into its lead girls

such an emotional read and a really touching story, the writing was so good
just felt it tried a little hard at times and because of it having a unique writing style it did get a little repetitive at times
but a really good palette cleanser between fantasy reads which is very necessary for me

It's always great to hear an audiobook read by the author, but Elizabeth Acevedo's books really shine in that format and I highly recommend it. Her and Melania-Luisa Marte were both such stunning narrators for this book and brought both main characters to life. So many of the reflections on grief resonated with me (and punched me in the gut). An amazing, amazing book.
