I thought this book was very gripping. The psychological profiling of all the characters was intriguing and you were not sure what was actually happening, whether it was part of the investigation or Clare’s imagination as the book switched effortlessly between Clare acting and her actually thoughts throughout.
Had no idea where this was going to go, constantly kept on my toes not knowing who to believe! So hard to put down.

This book was a good quick read when I needed something to fill my time however it wouldn't be at the top of my suggestion list for others. While it had some interesting themes, the writing and ideas used throughout the novel felt somewhat juvenile. I think I would have loved this book if I read it at age 15 when my reading level was much less mature. It's still a fun read if you have it laying around the house but nothing to write home about.
While the ending was unpredictable and surprised me, I can't condone the explicit and disturbing violence against women (black women primarily) -not to mention that most of these women are sex workers that JP Delaney writes in a demeaning way. Whether or not the author knew how harmful these ideas are, the length at which these violent scenes are described only perpetuates the very real violence that black women, especially sex workers, face.
um to co się tu działo...to było prześwietne. Nie spodziewałam się w ogóle tego co się działo. tak jak niektórzy z bohaterów zostałam po prostu oszukana. Ale wow jakby wow
This is one of the best thrillers I’ve read for a very long time, I absolutely love a mid-point twist. I’d read The Girl Before and enjoyed it a lot however I feel that this was so much better. The pace was perfect, twists were a little too much towards the end kind of felt like the author had thought of every way they could redirect the plot and then put them all in instead of choosing one but I enjoyed it the whole way through and wasn’t disappointed at the end. Although I do feel there was a few parts that needed more clarification at the end that I didn’t get an explanation for. I hope a new JP Delaney book is coming soon!
Thank you, NetGalley for an ARC of Believe Me. I loved this book! A wannabe actress is hired to get a confession from a murder suspect but gets in way over her head. I haven’t read The Girl Before yet so this is the first piece of writing of Delaney’s I’ve ever read. I’m very impressed and look forward to reading more.
