“Before you can worry about who's in your passenger seat, you have to learn to drive yourself.”

I held off on reading She Drives me Crazy because I wasn’t sure I was into sports romance, but I didn’t mind it. I guess I should’ve known it would be fine since I was really into Teen Wolf LOL

I loved the close family vibes. I loved the fact that they have important conversations to work out their feelings and support each other. There was a bit of homophobia in the book, but there was no coming out discourse with either one of the protagonists families.

I loved the small town setting. It was really cute and silly. It’s a good book to read around Christmas time. Religious faith is not really a big part of the story, but Irene and Scottie are both Catholic.

There was a big emphasis on the grief after a breakup, healing from that grief, learning to be yourself again and making up for your toxic behavior. I thought that was very important. No one in the book is perfect but they try to talk things out and learn from their mistakes.

She Drives Me Crazy has the perfect amount of sweet and cheesy moments.

This book does have references to Harry Potter characters in it.

The main character, Scottie, is just... Oof. If I had a friend like that, I'd stop being her friend real fast.
I wasn't expecting this to have the trope Fake Dating, too. I usually don't mind it, but the way they started the fake relationship rubbed me the wrong way.
Scottie just manipulated Irene so she pretended to date her, and then crossed clear boundaries just to make her ex jealous. Fuck no.

So yeah, I dropped it.

This book was a lot of fun! I read it all in one sitting, not necessarily because I couldn't put it down but because I was having too much fun to want to. Scottie and Irene are both great fun, and their friends are too.

This isn't pushing the bounds of literature by any means, some of the prose is clunky in places, and the plot is pretty silly, but the characters feel very vibrant and reading this felt very much like watching a teen romcom. That is to say, delightful.
